Since it became available, Fortnite's Infinity Gauntlet mode has been a big hit with fans of Epic Games' wildly popular sandbox survival title, as the Limited Time Mode has allowed players to wield the titular glove as the Marvel Cinematic Universe's character Thanos and wreak havoc upon the competition. Of course, as has been the case with many LTMs, the aforementioned mode will retire, and it's set to leave the game tomorrow on May 15, 2018.

As seen in the tweet below from the official Fortnite Twitter account, Epic Games announces the end date of the Infinity Gauntlet mode, and even goes as far to state that fans will be able to "wield the Gauntlet one last time." While this infers that the LTM will be leaving once and for all, one could argue that there is the possibility of it eventually returning to the sandbox survival title at some point in the future.

Several months ago, Epic Games stated that Fortnite would feature a plethora of Limited Time Modes as the title continues to evolve, and the studio has even stated that certain preexisting LTMs will be rotated out to then return in their original or slightly refined forms at some point in the future. After all, Epic just recently brought back a slightly tweaked variation of the first Limited Time Mode it ever introduced for Fortnite – that is, 50v50 –showing that the Infinity Gauntlet mode could come back either in its initial form or in a completely different permutation.

Taking all of this into consideration, it will be interesting to see if Fortnite ever does bring back its Thanos-centric Infinity Gauntlet mode, as it will have a justifiable reason to do so next year with the followup to Avengers: Infinity War scheduled for theatrical release in 2019. Then again, Epic Games could simply use the format of the mode for use with a new crossover entirely by replacing Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet with another superhero or villain possessing similar attributes and a different item. Naturally, the mode could also live on in a fresh way with an original figure and object created by Epic itself.

Fortnite is available now in early access for iOS, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
