Epic Games has been leaving a cryptic trail of clues lately for Fortnite players wondering about the comet that appeared far above the Tilted Towers. With the recent discovery of a comet-shaped object underneath the location, questions about what it could mean are only exacerbated.

To add to the enigma, two Fortnite dataminers by the name of Haubna and Beni (aka TwoEpicBuddies) discovered the name of an unannounced mode in the game's files earlier today. The name of the event, Impact, comes via a screenshot posted on their Twitter. Apparently, Impact is a solo event and probably has something to do with the comet. This may come as a disappointment to fans who wanted to play through the event (assuming it's real) in a squad with their buddies, but since it is unannounced as of yet, Epic Games could add a squad mode once everything is official.

The biggest clue concerning this limited time event is its title, Impact. The name is oddly specific to what a comet would do if it came crashing down onto the Tilted Towers. Through Epic Games' regular updates, more details regarding this mystery could arise very soon; in fact, a separate theory says the comet will impact on April 18th, as that date aligns with a bona-fide meteor shower that will be visible across the globe.

Epic Games has already shown a propensity for branching out and trying new things with their popular title. Recently, one of the developers replied to a reddit thread revealing that he welcomes the inclusion of Call of Duty's gun-game mode. If nothing else, this affirms the developer's inclination to player feedback, meaning they are acutely aware of the buzz their own comet is generating.

With updates coming to Fortnite so regularly, it's easy to see how Epic Games might be sneaking in preparations for the new event. Their most recent patch included the game replay mode, which led to the discovery of the comet-shaped object near Tilted. The developer's themselves are handing players the tools to make discoveries on their own, and until the 18th comes speculation will have to continue.

Fortnite is available now for iOS, PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
