Epic Games continues to evolve the Battle Royale experience for Fortnite players, which certainly helps to keep things feel fresh on the sole map that's been available since the mode launched. This time around, an Ice Sphere exploded, revealing an entity known as the Ice King as well as unleashing a winter spell which turned the entire map into snow and ice. The event also unleashed creatures known as ice fiends into the world for players to hunt to complete special challenges, though it appears not all players were satisfied with the creature's spawn rates.

In a new post on Reddit, Epic Games revealed that it had made a number of tweaks to the spawn rates of the recently added monsters on the Fortnite battle royale map. The hotfix flipped the spawn rates for the Ice Legion monsters, making them more common in the earlier parts of the game and gradually making them rarer as the match progressed towards the end phase. In addition, Golden Brutes, an already rare spawning enemy, will now appear more often.

Spawn Rate Adjustments

  • Increased the spawn rate of all Ice Legion in the early game.

  • This spawn rate gradually decreases as the game progresses.

  • Increased Circle 1 Ice Legion spawns by 100%

  • Increased Circle 2 Ice Legion spawns by 20%

  • Reduced the spawn rate of all Ice Legion towards the end game.

  • Decreased Circle 3 Ice Legion spawns by 80%

  • Decreased Circle 4 Ice Legion spawns by 80%

  • Decreased Circle 5 Ice Legion spawns by 80%

  • Increased the spawn rate of Golden Brutes by 100%

  • This will compound on top of the spawn rate changes mentioned above.

The big reason for this change is to help players progress further through the Ice Storm Challenges earlier in the match so that they could then focus on winning the game as the match progressed rather than fighting off the monsters. Based on the replies to the announcement, it seems most players are beyond happy to see these changes.

While this update has been a hit with the community, not all changes have been as welcoming, however. Earlier this week, Epic released update 7.20 which added Sneaky Snowmen, the sniper shootout mode and more. Unfortunately, Epic also used this update to place three more items into the vault including the Quad Launcher, Port-A-Fortress, and one of the more surprising items: the grappler. The community has been divided over the news with some being happy about the item being gone and others furious that the mobility enhancer is no longer available.

Fortnite is out now in early access for iOS, Android, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
