Fortnite has officially kicked off its Fortnitemares 2022 event, which adds new themed content to the game, including the powerful new Howler Claws. The new limited-time item is arguably one of Fortnite's most powerful yet, although players can only obtain them by following specific steps at specific locations.
Epic Games' immensely popular battle royale title has - for at least the last few years - regularly come out with a Halloween-themed content batch in the form of Fortnitemares. Fortnite confirmed the return of Fortnitemares to be on October 18 at the beginning of the month, making this year's event longer than just about all other iterations in the past.
How to Get Howler Claws in Fortnite
One of the biggest additions that has come to the island as part of Fortnitemares 2022 is undoubtedly the powerful new Howler Claws. But rather than finding them in Chests, players are required to complete a ritual, which is thankfully easier than it sounds. In order for Fortnite players to get Howler Claws, they must find an Alteration Altar, where they will be given the option to perform the Ritual Emote, granting them the supernatural item. The Reality Tree POI has the most altars, with three in the area, while another half dozen are scattered elsewhere on the map.
What are Howler Claws?
Howler Claws essentially give players the power of a werewolf, giving the wielder the ability to track and claw down their opponents. Players can howl to activate the Wolfscent Ability, which gives players tracking vision by repeatedly putting a mark on enemies in a nearby radius before going into cooldown.
The Howler Claws' Slash Ability lets players execute a four-hit melee attack, and the Air Slash Ability grants a double jump that damages opponents when landing. The new item seems far more powerful than last year's Shadow Stones, being much more offensively geared, though not as easy to obtain.
In addition to the new Howler Claws, Fortnite has finally brought back a version of the Rocket Launcher with the Pumpkin Launcher for Fortnitemares 2022. The explosive projectile item is most easily found at the new Grim Gables POI. It makes an excellent defense for keeping Howler Claw-equipped enemies at bay, considering they're limited to short range. Fortnitemares 2022 also marks the return of Candy, which is again scattered throughout the island.
Beyond new and returning items, the Fortnitemares 2022 event brings plenty of other Halloween content, including a bevy of quests, cosmetics, game modes, and more. Fortnitemares runs until November 1, so players should drop in soon if they want to take advantage of the new content.
