When it comes to Fortnite, the first thing most gamers think of is its ever-growing roster of crossover characters or perhaps its signature - yet divisive - building mechanics. However, one thing Fortnite also excels at is the rate at which it changes up the gameplay. Each update adds or unvaults new abilities, POIs, weapons, modes, and items, including the latest unvaulting of Shadow Bombs and Shield Bubbles. This guide will tell players how these items work and where they can find them on the island.

The long duration between major updates is a result of Fortnite's Dragon Ball crossover, which added a plethora of content from the beloved franchise to the game. While much of the Dragon Ball content may be gone, players can still get the Kamehameha and Nimbus Cloud Mythics via capsules.

How to Get Shadow Bombs and Shield Bubbles

In keeping with tradition with the final few weeks of the season, Fortnite is introducing Shadow of Phantasm Week as part of its latest update. The biggest component of the themed week is the unvaulting of Shadow Bombs and Shield Bubbles, which can be found on the ground, in Chests, and in Supply Drops.

While Shield Bubbles appeared more recently during an item vote period earlier this year, Shadow Bombs have been vaulted since Chapter 1 season 9, marking the first time the item has been seen in over three years.

For those who may not have been playing Fortnite for that long, Shadow Bombs are a self-use item that turns the user into a shadowy specter, making them difficult to see.

Players cannot use items, builds, or weapons when in the shadow state, although their mobility is greatly increased, allowing for double jumps. As for the Shield Bubble, the item spawns a large transparent dome blocking fire from either direction. Shield Bubbles can counter Junk Rifts and are great at defending squads and vehicles.

Shadow Bombs and Shield Bubbles aren't the only things being unvaulted for Shadow of Phantasm Week, either. Fortnite is also unvaulting suppressed weapons, in the form of the Suppressed Assault Rifle and the Suppressed SMG.

The weapons don't appear to have been altered since their last appearances, still offering the same heightened accuracy and lower damage versus their standard counterparts. The Shadow of Phantasm Week ends September 7, 2022, at 9 AM ET, meaning players should act fast if they want to take advantage of the various items.

Fortnite is free-to-play on PC, Mobile, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
