Following all of the teases, Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 4 has brought plenty of changes to the immensely popular battle royale. In addition to the Spider-Gwen cosmetic outfit, Fortnite added Vaults for players to attempt to unlock an earn piles of loot. Alongside new NPCs and weapons to track down, the biggest change fans will notice is likely with the map which is now lorded over by a character known as The Herald.

While map changes are fairly common with each season, the Fortnite Paradise update has added a growing substance called Chrome which is slowly transforming the island. Alongside two new Points of Interest called Cloudy Condos and Herald's Sanctum, chrome has started appearing on the Eastern side and appears to be slowly moving West, eventually engulfing the map or perhaps acting as a climactic final event at season's end.

With the strong Chrome theme for Season 4, Epic Games has added a new, and likely important, throwable item into Fortnite. Chrome Splash is something that is likely going to shake up the meta due to its interesting abilities once used on structures. Here's where players can find this item as well as what it does.

What is Chrome Splash?

Introduced inside Chapter 3, season 4 of Fortnite, Chrome Splash is a throwable or consumable item found all around the newly altered Fortnite map. Players can choose to throw it at a structure which will not only turn the object chrome, but allow players to phase through it as if nothing was there. Better yet, it works on any Fortnite materials like wood, brick, or metal.

Alternatively, players can opt to consume the Chrome Splash item instead. Doing so turns the player character into Chrome which makes them immune to fire. However, the biggest benefits to this is that the player turns into a blob when running which eliminates fall damage, increases their speed, and gives the ability to air dash. Not only that, simply running into walls will apply the chrome effect and allow for phasing.

Where to Find Chrome Splash

Thankfully, it's not a terribly difficult item to get a hold of, especially as chrome begins to engulf the island entirely. Just like any other consumable or throwable, Chrome Splash can be found randomly throughout the map by opening chests, stashes, or just finding it as floor loot.

How to Use Chrome Splash

Using Chrome Splash is simple, though it largely depends on how the player wants to use it. Using it like a throwable grenade in Fortnite, players should aim it at the structure or wall they want to pass through. Once hit, the structure turns silver in color, letting players know that it can be phased through. Keep in mind that this isn't as fast as walking, there's a short animation of the character pushing through it. Chrome Splash is also only for vertical surfaces, not ceilings or floors and the chromed surface will stay in this condition until the match ends, or it is destroyed.

Alternatively, players can use it as they would Chug Splash, throwing it at the ground to apply the Chrome status to themselves or nearby teammates to gain the abilities detailed above. Unlike structures, this effect doesn't last the entire match, typically ending after about 40 seconds or so, though getting damaged by an enemy players will also turn the player back into their normal, non-chrome form as well.

Fortnite is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and mobile devices.
