It's October, which means Halloween-themed mayhem in Fortnite. The popular battle royale is filled to the brim with Fortnitemares Halloween events and challenges. One of the spooky challenges for this week is to deal damage with a possessed vehicle.

Fortnite added drivable cars back in August 2020, and now Epic games is making them part of the Halloween celebration for this year. Along with eating candy, riding witches' brooms, and haunting the map, players can gain XP from driving a possessed vehicle and dealing damage to another player or NPC. But first, they'll have to figure out how to get a possessed vehicle in the first place.

Playing Dead

In order to grab a possessed vehicle, Fortnite players will need to be in Shadow Mode. Shadow Mode is part of the Fortnitemares celebration for October 2020, and it's thankfully easy to shift to Shadow Mode: all players have to do is to die. Once dead, players will shift into ghost mode, haunting the map as an creepy spirit. Then it's time to grab a car.

Getting a Possessed Vehicle

Once players are in Shadow Mode, they are technically a ghost. That means any vehicle they get into and drive is now a possessed car. Landing at any location where vehicles are known to spawn, such as Fortnite's Stark Industries or Doom's Domain, players can swipe a car and cruise to their undead hearts' desire. Since the challenge doesn't specify which kind of vehicle players need to be driving, they can grab whatever type they fancy. The list of vehicles that are currently included in the game that would be great for dealing damage are mostly cars, but players can also try and crash a Choppa into someone if they prefer.

One good thing for Fortnite players trying to finish the challenge is that there are several places where vehicles can spawn. Make sure to aim for one of those, like Catty Corner (players can also fuel up there too), Sweaty Sands, or just east of Pleasant Park. There are vehicle spawns all over the map, so Fortnite players won't have tons of competition for a car.

Dealing Damage

To deal some damage, all players have to do is run someone over.

Players can deal damage by running over fellow players, henchmen, Stark robots, or other killable NPCs in the game. The damage can be to just about anything on the map that moves, so make sure to smash into someone until the challenge is complete. That's 40,000 XP earned, and players can continue to work on the rest of this week's Fortnitemare's challenges for 2020.

Fortnite is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
