Fortnite is an ever-changing game with plenty of new features consistently added to shake up the gameplay experience. The arrival of Fortnite’s brand-new chapter saw the entire map flipped upside down, revealing an entirely unexplored island to plunder, featuring both fresh and familiar locations. With Chapter 3 Season 1, players also saw the introduction of new weather effects on Island Artemis, bringing tornadoes and lightning storms to utilize and contend with.

Capable of destroying anything in their path, neither player-made nor developer-built structures were safe when coming in contact with these devastating whirlwinds, and while they were quietly vaulted during the Chapter’s second Season, tornadoes make their triumphant return in Fortnite with Chapter 3 Season 3.

Now, players are free to use them fully to their advantage, making the most of their uplifting force to reach dizzying heights and travel vast distances. However, finding them can be tricky, and requires a lot of luck and keen observation to pinpoint their location. This guide will help players track down Fortnite’s tornadoes to help them traverse the increasingly vibrant and volatile wilds of Island Artemis as the Zero Point corruption progresses.

How to Find a Tornado

Fortnite - Riding The Tornado

Tornadoes are a fairly uncommon occurrence in Fortnite Battle Royale, as their spawn is utterly random, and they can appear almost anywhere on the Island. Luckily, when they do spawn, they appear on the player’s map with a white icon depicting the maelstrom. To track them down, players need to keep their eyes and ears open for any sign of bad weather.

When tornadoes spawn, dark volumetric clouds will appear, localized entirely above them. These clouds render at quite a long distance, allowing players to see them from far away; as such, Loopers should keep an eye on the sky to figure out where one will appear.

Moreover, tornadoes make a large amount of noise as they travel, so listening out for them nearby is key – having Fortnite's visualized sound effects enabled will help with this.

Finally, successful tornado hunters will rely on a lot of luck. In some games, the tornado might appear in the storm, while other times players may not encounter them at all.

Roaming the Island as the circle shrinks may prove useful in encountering this natural phenomenon, though some players may want to stick to areas in the middle of the map, such as the revamped Tilted Towers, in order to get a good view of the Island and efficiently reach any tornado in sight.

Fortnite is currently available for Android, Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
