After Epic Games shocked Fortnite players by essentially turning off the game for nearly two days via a black hole, the massive popular Battle Royale mode is back for what the developer called Chapter 2. One of the biggest changes is a brand new map, though many new gameplay features have also been added to liven up the experience for veterans and new players alike. One such mechanic is being able to use a fishing rod to catch fish.

However, that's not the only thing players may find. New challenges in Fortnite this week feature one that's tied specifically to fishing and catching a weapon rather than an actual fish. As expected, the game won't hold player's hands in completing this objective so here's how to not only fish, but catch an elusive weapon.

How to Get a Fishing Rod

The first part of the challenge is to track down a fishing rod. Thankfully, they're not difficult to find as they're scattered around the world, may appear in from chests, can be found near bodies of water, or in floor loot as well. One particularly good spot is in the new location called Craggy Cliffs towards the northern location of the new map.

With the fishing rod secured, head to any body of water and use the item to cast out the lure.

Catching a Weapon

At this point, players will need to be patient as there's no particular method to catching a weapon. The game will reward XP for catching something, though what the player manages to fish out of a body of water appears to be random. Continue using the fishing rod and eventually a weapon will appear.

The tough part of this challenge is actually getting enough time to continue fishing until a weapon appears considering that this is still a Battle Royale mode and players are always on the hunt. This challenge may be easier in team based modes where the player trying to fish will have more protection or attempting in locations where there are not a ton of other players present.

In addition to being able to fish, Chapter 2 also adds in a ton of new content like motorboats, team emotes, environmental explosives, and squad actions like being able to carry downed teammates. Of course, there's a new battle pass that players can purchase which features a ton of unlockable content including new character skins such as one that turns the Riptide character into what appears to be an iconic DC Comics character.

Fortnite is out now for iOS, Android, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
