Fortnite, despite being a free-to-play title pushing five years in age, manages to stay at the forefront of relevant video games. This is largely due to the game's near-constant stream of updates, tweaking Fortnite's gameplay through a variety of means. Its latest update unvaults a variety of items, including some long-dormant ones.

Epic Games' ever-popular battle royale title is entering the final month of Chapter 3 Season 2. The eventful season has seen building get taken away, and then restored with a new dedicated Zero Build Mode, in addition to a territorial battle for the island between the Imagined Order and The Seven. Fortnite has more recently added Scarlet Witch, complimenting this season's Doctor Strange skin.

Fortnite's v20.30 hotfix update brings an assortment of different item types back into the fold. The biggest surprise is perhaps the Air Strike, which hasn't been seen since the game's very first chapter. A throwable weapon, the Air Strike emits a red smoke and air raid siren before raining down 20 missiles on the designated location. Also, for the next week, players will have access to trickshot weapons like the fan-favorite Flint-Knock Pistol and the Hunting Rifle. All of the mentioned items can be found in chests, Supply Drops, and on the ground.

In addition to the Air Strike, Flint-Knock Pistol, and Hunting Rifle, Fortnite has also begun its next item funding round. Players have the option to fund either the Shield Bubble or Balloons, with both offering a form of protection. For those unaware, the Shield Bubble creates a temporary shield impenetrable to explosives and projectiles. For Fortnite's popular Balloon item, players can attach various amounts to themselves to become more airborne and agile. Both items will be available to try from May 13 to May 16, after which the first one fully funded stays.

The hotfix builds off of Fortnite's robust initial v20.30 update, which added a variety of items as well. In addition to Star Wars weaponry like Lightsabers and the E-11 Blaster Rifle, the update also unvaulted the Choppa, not seen in the main game since Chapter 2 Season 4. The update also overhauled the game's current shotguns, rebalancing them to become generally more powerful. Between the initial update and the hotfix, players have quite the array of distinct items to play with.

With the current season's story arc nearing its apparent conclusion, some fans may be wondering what comes next. While Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 3's start date is basically confirmed, there should be an exciting final showdown between The Seven and the IO in the battle for the island, with plenty of recently unvaulted items in tow.

Fortnite is free-to-play on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
