As Fortnite's final Aquaman challenges to unlock both the Aquaman skin and the DC character's signature trident come to a close, Epic Games appears to have a few final surprises in store. While several fans' eyes are on the new Black Manta skin, some observant players have picked up on other details that may hold clues for the developer's future plans.

While scouring the Black Manta debut trailer, fans of the battle royale began discussing their own observations and theories for Fortnite's third season. However, as Aquaman's famed nemesis tore his way through the map, one Reddit user noticed some unusual drops from one of the villain's kills.

In a perfectly timed screenshot, Reddit user Raynedrop168 noticed that one of the fallen characters dropped a heavy assault rifle. Before its removal last June, fans with a sharp aim often turned to the heavy assault rifle for its high damage capacity. Although Epic removed the weapon relatively recently, several fans theorized that the Fortnite trailer was foreshadowing its return. Other eagle-eyed viewers also noticed the vaulted minigun in another shot of the trailer.

Despite their fond memories with the heavy assault rifle, many commenters expressed skepticism about its return. Although Fortnite has teased its players with blink-and-you-miss-it details in the past, these commenters pointed out that Epic previously featured other discontinued weapons like the P90 in its trailers without bringing them back. Others pointed out that the heavy assault rifle and minigun's drops could be due to the trailer taking place in Team Rumble mode. Although they cited the presence of boats and vehicles in-game as further proof, Raynedrop pointed out that fallen players normally don't drop guns in Team Rumble.

One commenter dismissed the minigun's appearance as just a timely coincidence with its return for an unvaulted event. However, the commenter did note that between the two archived weapons, the heavy AR had a better chance of returning in a future Fortnite update since it already fit the existing gameplay balance.

Although fans' hopes for the heavy assault rifle remain unsubstantiated for now, Fortnite chapter 2's third season is building interest for the game's next stages. Now that Fortnite's floods are disappearing, fans can hopefully look forward to new crossovers and new gear to unlock.

Fortnite is available for Android, iOS, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
