Fortnite Season 4 may be all about Marvel at the moment, with some upcoming tournaments likely to introduce more superhero skins as rewards like Daredevil. But the superhero shenanigans are being put on hold for the time being with today's Halloween update, or Fortnitemares as it's called.

Epic Games has already laid out some of the content in the update, namely new cosmetics, a new Nitemare Royale mode where players can come back as a Shadow after being eliminated, and confirming that Midas, who was introduced back in Season 2 but was seemingly killed, is returning. And with the update live, eager players have already discovered that the map itself has undergone some changes.

Firstly, most of the settlements in Fortnite now have Halloween decorations, like spider webs plastered on the side of walls and giant, fake spiders placed on top of roofs. There are even some new props inside of the buildings.

Secondly, new buildings called Witchshacks are dotted around the island. These Witchshacks will no doubt become popular hotspots for players, as these are where broomsticks can be found, which can then be rode on, allowing players to fly around the map.

A new point of interest has been introduced in the center of the map. Now called The Ruins, it has a spooky atmosphere thanks to the deep purple fog and is reportedly surrounded by ghouls as well. Players have also spotted a location that looks to be where Midas will make his return. A bunch of lit candles have been placed in a circle, with Midas' old throne spotted in the area too. The whole thing very much seems to suggest that Midas did die and will be resurrected.

All this Halloween stuff certainly means players aren't lacking in things to do, but that may not necessarily be a good thing. Even before the update, there were reports of players being burnt out by the sheer amount of content there is to unlock thanks to Epic Games' collaboration with Marvel. The season's Battle Pass has well over 200 tiers and some have questioned if it's even worth it, and Epic no doubt still has more planned since the season isn't due to end until next month.

The crossover certainly isn't hurting Marvel any, which is completely embracing it with not just numerous characters being added as skins but has made it an official part of an ongoing Thor storyline in the comics. Earlier this month, Marvel's Joe Quesada revealed Fortnite variant cover for the then latest issue of X-Men, which features villain Mystique standing side-by-side with a few Fortnite characters, including Midas.

Fortnite is available on Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
