The Guardian Shield is a defensive item that was added to Fortnite as part of the v23.10 hotfix, and one of the latest "This Week" quests centers around using it. More specifically, the quest instructs players to block shots while holding the Guardian Shield, and the first step toward completing it is finding the relevant item. This guide is here to assist with that step by providing details on the best source for Guardian Shields in Fortnite.
Fortnite: Where to Find Guardian Shields
Players that are on the hunt for a Guardian Shield should focus their efforts on locations with a high-density of Oathbound Chests in Fortnite. Indeed, the item appears frequently within these containers, and there are many locations where fans can find them. One such location is Fridgeberg, a landmark that is situated just north of Anvil Square, and its position has been marked on the map that is below.
Upon arriving at Fridgeberg, there are three buildings that Fortnite players should check for Oathbound Chests. Here are details on those buildings, and fans are advised to visit them at the beginning of their matches:
- The top of the tower at the northwest corner of the location.
- The second floor of the partially-submerged house that is just southeast of the tower.
- The second floor of the partially-submerged house that is just east of the previous-detailed house.
To note, Oathbound Chests are not the only source for Guardian Shields, as this Fortnite Chapter 4 item can also appear in standard Chests and as floor loot. However, it is more difficult to take a targeted approach to obtaining a Guardian Shield from one of these alternative sources, and players that want to maximize their chances of bringing a Shield into battle should stick with Oathbound Chests.
Once a player has collected a Guardian Shield, they will find that there are two ways in which they can use it. Specifically, fans can either hold the Shield in front of them or deploy it onto the terrain in Fortnite, and it will serve as a protective barrier in both instances.
The Guardian Shield cannot always be used for protection, though, as it needs power to operate. Players can see the state of their Shield's power by looking to its icon in the bottom-right corner of the screen, and the Shield itself will begin to flash purple when its power is almost-fully depleted. When the Shield's power does ultimately run out, it will go on a 10-second cooldown, and it will begin recharging after that time has lapsed.
Fortnite is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and mobile devices.
