Fortnite is no stranger when it comes to an imaginative arsenal. The battle royale has seen quite the array of diverse weaponry over the years. From egg and snowball launchers, to various traps, craftable weapons, and plenty of Exotics, Fortnite has some unique items in its catalog. However, the latest gun now on the island looks like something ripped straight out of Valve's cult classic game Half-Life 2.

Epic Games' popular free-to-play title is entering the last month of its Season 7. The alien invasion-themed season introduced a variety of new high-tech weaponry, including things like the Pulse Rifle, Rail Gun, and the Kymera Ray Gun. Fortnite has been steadily adding more options over the course of the season as well, with later updates adding mobility items like Alien Nanites and Inflate-A-Bulls.

Fortnite updates to version 17.30 today, which adds and updates several pieces of in-game content. The biggest component of the update is the all-new Grab-itron weapon. Players who get their hands on this alien weapon will be able to pull in an object in front of them, travel along with it, and then can launch it at opponents. The amount of damage the object does is dependent on how big it is, what material it's made of, and its launch speed. The Grab-itron doubles as a defensive weapon, as pulled-in objects can act as a frontal shield from enemy fire. Players can also use the new weapon to catch and throw back incoming explosives, making it quite the versatile tool.

Grab-itrons can be found in regular treasure chests, on top of Abductors, and inside the Mothership. The futuristic looking weapon's trailer has already amassed well over half a million views at the time of writing, with many fans comparing the weapon's design and functionality to a weapon from a different game. Many players think the Grab-itron's mechanics appear nearly identical to the Zero Point Energy Field Manipulator, also known as the Gravity Gun from Half-life 2. Intended for heavy lifting, the Gravity Gun has the same functions of the Grab-itron in that it pulls in an object in front of the wielder, which can then be fired at an enemy.

The addition of the Grab-itron isn't the only new thing happening in Fortnite. In addition to Slurpy Swamp being slowly abducted by the alien mothership, its been announced that Ariana Grande is getting a skin with an in-game concert. Part of Fortnite's Rift Tour kicking off next week, the award-winning artist will have a series of in-game concerts from August 6-8, offering players a variety of rewards for attending. Fans can also get a few different Ariana Grande skin variants in the shop beginning August 4.

The addition of the Grab-itron should be a welcome one amongst the vast majority of Fortnite's player base, with the versatile weapon likely enabling plenty of new strategies for players to get to a Victory Royale. DC fans can try the new high-tech weapon with the new high-tech mercenary Bloodsport skin from The Suicide Squad, which launches today.

Fortnite is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
