After a very long wait, Season 3 of Fortnite has finally arrived, and everyone is on the lookout for all of the fresh changes to the game. This includes new items and modifications to the island, with the most glaring difference being the Fortnite map covered in water. Thanks to this increase in moisture, players are discovering Golden Mushrooms popping up all over the new map, but this infrequently growing fungi are incredibly hard to find.

This is a brand new item, added recently as part of the title's latest update. Developer Epic Games has released no patch notes nor has it made an official announcement on the item. This places responsibility on the shoulders of the Fortnite community to figure out what these Golden Mushrooms are all about. As expected, it took little time to discover all of the details; they provide incredibly useful boosts to player shields, which may explain why they are so rare.

Mushrooms as powerups are nothing new, but outside of Super Mario Bros., it is uncommon. Like an actual fungus, they have spread -- this time, into another franchise. If a player eats one, a Golden Mushroom will provide 100 shield. Three can be stacked in an inventory slot, but finding three to stack may prove difficult. According to HYPEX on Twitter, there is a 0.0001% spawn chance and they cannot be found in food boxes.

While the spawn rates may be abysmal, the mushrooms are pretty easy to spot. Players looking for this elusive item should search the ground near trees, meaning forested areas are a good bet. They can also be found in water, so check lakes and ponds. Be sure to keep an eye out for them while doing quests, such as the search for gnomes at Homely Hills.

After the flood, most of what was available in Season 2 has been wiped away, bringing in a slew of new content for Season 3. However, just like Season 2, there are new Mythic Weapons in Fortnite to obtain. They can be acquired the same way, by challenging mini-bosses found around the map. There are six weapons in all and each boss will drop two. There's only one of each Mythic Weapon per match, though, so there will be stiff competition from other players to get them. Anyone looking snag some for themselves, it will be wise to first refer to a Season 3 weapon tier list.

Fortnite is available now Android, iOS, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions in development.
