For the past couple of months, Fortnite has pretty consistently hosted crossover events. It started with the Avengers: Endgame event that allowed players to use weapons from the movie as well as take on the role of the Mad Titan himself Thanos, and now it looks like it may be continuing with a Fortnite Godzilla event.

Rumors of a Fortnite Godzilla event started because of a giant eyeball that has been discovered in Polar Peak. If players move near the eyeball, it follows them, suggesting that whatever is in encased in the ice is still alive. Now, it's quite possible that this giant eyeball just belongs to the long-rumored dragons, but it seems many are convinced that it is a tease for an unannounced promotional crossover with the upcoming Godzilla: King of the Monsters movie.

While it's possible that Fortnite is doing a Godzilla event, it's just as likely that the event will feature generic giant monsters created specifically for Fortnite instead. After all, PUBG has already done a crossover with Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and while not impossible, it does seem unlikely that the film would be promoted in competing battle royale games.

Fortnite Godzilla event may not materialize, but that doesn't change the fact that there is a giant creature of some kind at Polar Peak. Based on past Fortnite events, likely that the emergence of this creature will change the map in significant ways, like getting rid of Polar Peak and possibly damaging other areas.

If the event is a Godzilla crossover as some have predicted, then map changes are less likely. Most of the time, Fortnite crossover events are confined to limited-time game modes and cosmetics, which is what we saw with the Avengers: Endgame event as well as the more recent John Wick event and the Michael Jordan crossover that added the Downtown Drop mode.

If Fortnite is planning a Godzilla crossover, then we should find out within the next couple of days when Godzilla: King of the Monsters hit theaters. Otherwise, Fortnite battle royale players can still look forward to seeing the Polar Peak monster at some point, even if it's not Godzilla.

Fortnite is out now in early access for iOS, Android, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
