Fortnite has steadily morphed into a massive conglomeration of licensed properties, with the likes of Star Wars, The Avengersand plenty of other franchises' characters being added to the game since it released. However, it appears that the game is getting one of its most exciting additions yet, as God of War's Kratos is coming to the battle royale game.

Twitter user HYPEX, who is known for leaking Fortnite information, showed off the upcoming character skin, which is based on the 2018 God of War reboot's Kratos appearance. While the photo itself doesn't reveal many details about Kratos' addition, it shows off Kratos' model, which has the soft, cartoony look that Fortnite characters tend to have. A banner on the image simply states "Join the Hunt," with the PlayStation Studios watermark in the lower-right-hand corner.

PlayStation shared an "audio transmission" from Fortnite, which came in the form of an audio log. The log is a "note to self" warning the narrator not to research targets before transporting them to Fortnite's island. The "transmission" goes on to highlight the fact that Kratos has killed multiple gods, a clear nod to Kratos and his violent past.

Of course, this does raise some pretty big questions. It seems likely that Kratos will be exclusive to PlayStation consoles, though with how Fortnite handles crossplay, that still means the character will appear on platforms outside of PlayStation's own. That's a sizeable shift considering how opposed the company once was to crossplay being enabled on the PS4, before changing its stance due to fan demand.

Kratos isn't the only major new skin coming to the game with Fortnite Season 5. The Mandalorian will also be featured in the game, as highlighted by the new season's story trailer, which released yesterday following the Galactus event. It's an interesting combo of characters, though it does highlight how interesting Fortnite's relationship with licensed properties has become, as next to nothing feels impossible now as far as cameos are concerned.

All this means that in the coming season, fans will see faceoffs against the Mandalorian, Kratos, and any of the other characters with skins, from Iron Man to John Wick. It's a truly bizarre idea because of the absurdity all the different elements. In a way, it's similar to what Super Smash Bros. has accomplished, though at this point, it's beginning to operate on a much larger scale than even Nintendo could ever hope for.

Fortnite is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, and Xbox One.
