Even though Epic Games and Apple are currently waging a legal battle against one another, Fortnite continues to see unprecedented success. The latest surge is largely thanks to its recent collaboration with Marvel, bringing many iconic characters like Wolverine, Thor, and others to the popular Battle Royale. Many of the characters are more than just simple character skins, as some even have superhero based abilities which add to the weapon heavy gameplay. However, one superhero in particular may be causing a bit more chaos than expected.

Recently, Fortnite players have started taking to social media to highlight a strange phenomenon that has been happening randomly during matches. Multiple player reports show that during matches, some players have occasionally been thrown off the map, deep into the out of bounds area known as the storm. In this instance, there's no way to get back to the map, resulting in a cheap death for the player getting affected.

Most players indicate this typically happens after a 1 on 1 fight, where both players are jump around trying to gain the upper hand. However, most are starting to believe that the true cause of this bug is the Groot skin and its special ability, Bramble Shield. When activated, the player gains a shield and continues to allow them to move around. As an added bonus, any player that is hit by the shield gets knocked back.

Theories from the community seem to indicate that if the shield is activated and used either from above or below another player, the game assumes that the force of the impact is much harder than it is. The knock back bonus therefore miscalculates the force of the effect, multiplying it and sending players flying much further away than intended. Adding to the theory is the fact that some members of the community have been able to replicate the issue with the Bramble Shield. While it's hard to replicate during a match considering the specific circumstances, this is no doubt an issue that Epic Games will have to look at sooner or later to maintain the competitive balance.

Even with this unfortunate glitch, the latest crossover with Marvel appears to be a fruitful one for both companies. With even more Marvel content planned to release inside the game over the course of this current season, Marvel has also run with this Nexus War story line to integrate it into a special comic book series. Taking place in the current Thor comic arc, Galactus senses a rift which gives him access to the Fortnite Island, where Thor rushes ahead to warn the people there and calling other heroes to help stop the villain from consuming it. The story has also jumped to other comic series such as Wolverine #5.

Fortnite is free-to-play for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions in development.
