Fortnite has already received on big update to get players in the festive mood. The Valentine's Day update went live earlier this month and introduced several romance-themed heroes and the new crossbow weapon. But that's not all that developers Epic Games and People Can Fly have in store for fans.

A major new Fortnite update has just gone live, adding even more festive themed items, characters and quests to both Fortnite Battle Royale and Fortnite Save The World (Fortnite's narrative, co-operative multiplayer mode).

On the Save The World side, players will have access to four new Lunar New Year heroes who are dressed in traditional Lunar New Year attire. The four characters are in each of Fortnite's character classes (there's a Soldier, a Ninja, a Constructor, and an Outlander) meaning that Save The World players can get into the festive spirit no matter their preferred playstyles.

Fortnite Save The World Lunar New Year weapons

Additionally, Save The World has added several Lunar New Year themed weapons. There are eight weapons in total, including an ornate sniper rifle and a mighty hammer and they are all inspired by (Chinese zodiac) the Dragon. There are three melee weapons and five guns, which again, is a solid mix that should suit all Fortnite players.

Meanwhile, Fortnite Battle Royale players will be able to use a new weapon and they should also notice some changes to the map. The Impulse Grenade sticks to a surface and upon detonation, it sends any players in its radius flying. The weapon is almost as entertaining as the Boogie Bomb and could be particularly useful when trying to knock snipers off their perch or to launch a surprise ambush. It should be noted that the Impulse Grenade is blue rarity and can only be found in treasure chests and supply drops.

Fortnite Battle Royale Lunar New Year shrines

Battle Royale players should also expect to see Shrines dotted about the map. These themed shrines have been decorated for Lunar New Year (they are adorned with red and gold lanterns) and they contain treasure as well. This is nowhere near as substantial as the huge Battle Royale map update, but this slight map tweak should give players a good reason to change their strategies nonetheless.

According to the patch notes, this is just the start of what Epic Games and People Can Fly have in store for players over the coming weeks. Fortnite Save The World's Spring It On! event is just beginning so fans can expect even more substantial updates and patches to be released soon.

Fortnite is available now in early access on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
