It can be hard to score a specific skin or emote in Epic Game's cultural phenomenon FortniteThe shop changes on a regular basis, meaning many players will pay pretty much any price when their favorite skins make an appearance. However, this isn't the case with some rare or exclusive cosmetic equipment that is only available for attendees of certain conventions, like a new gamescom-exclusive spray that's selling for up to $150 online.

Fortnite players venturing online to find codes from the event were in for a bit of a surprise, as the spray, which would likely be worth at most $10 on the in-game store, was going for anywhere between $80-$150 due to scalpers inflating prices to make a quick buck, which has become a regular occurrence for just about everything. This is just the first of two event-exclusive sprays that have made their way into the game, with the other being a PAX West exclusive coming at the end of this month.

The spray really isn't anything too special. It features a pixelated Llama wearing a gold chain and was only available to people who attended a Fortnite-themed amusement park at gamescom. This isn't the first time something like this has happened, and the $150 price tag is relatively low compared to some other instances of scalpers inflating prices for rare items. In fact, a CS:GO skin sold for more than $60,000 just a few weeks ago.

Scalping has become a real issue in the Internet age. With the ability to do things like botting, it's become much easier for scalpers to buy limited items in massive quantities. Such is the case with Blizzcon every year, and it's part of what caused a massive spike in the cost of the NES Classic online. For Fortnite specifically, it may be worth it for Epic to have players log in at an event to redeem codes, which would help remove the issue of scalping.

Hopefully, the players that did manage to get their hands on the skin, outrageous price or not, enjoy it. If they don't, though, they at least have the chance to blast their way through Fortnite's fifth season and new challenges.

Fortnite is available now in early access on iOS, Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, with an Android beta currently taking place.
