Fortnite continues to introduce new characters from across different universes into the game as part of its hunter-focused fifth season. Continuing its trend of surprises, Fortnite looks to be teasing a fan-favorite character from an unexpected franchise.

Epic Games' free-to-play battle royale just released its latest update, which, among other things, finally sees the return of sand tunneling. While glitches in Fortnite aren't too uncommon, the tumultuous on-again, off-again nature of sand tunneling appears to have been difficult to patch. The sneaky technique is actually fitting for Fortnite's upcoming addition, who is quite sneaky themselves.

The "Reality Log" transmission comes from the official Fortnite Twitter account. In the audio clip, listeners can hear Agent Jonesy loudly speaking, due to his hearing being shot from "non-stop" explosions and laser guns in the reality he's recording from. The universe-traveling agent goes on to discuss that his next acquisition will be perfect, because he and his allies are apparently more than capable and have the "best codenames." The end of the log then consists of Jonesy discussing how opponents won't be able to hear this new recruit, and ends with an all-too-familiar slogan, "..and knowing is half the battle."

For gamers who have yet to piece the clues together, all signs are pointing to everyone's favorite G.I. Joe character, Snake Eyes. The Twitter post also includes a target description, listed as "Ninja Master." The silent ninja joins a growing roster of icons from 80s action franchises, including the eponymous Predator and Sarah Connor and T-800 Terminator skins. Another clue that further builds the case for Snake Eyes can be found in a certain Twitter bio. Epic Games' Chief Creative Officer Donald Mustard currently has his location set to "Arishikage Clan" which, as G.I. Joe fans will know, is the clan that Snake Eyes belongs to.

The black-clad commando's outfit may also become a point of controversy. Known for his monochrome black ninja outfit, Snake Eyes might raise the same issues Fortnite players have had with the recent superhero skin. The superhero skin features customizable colors including all-black, which can be used as camouflage in some parts of the map and led to many players accusing the skin of being pay to win. The same issue is bound to arise unless Epic has some type of an alternate look planned.

The continued addition of characters from unexpected franchises has gone a long way in keeping the battle royale's fanbase interested. However, there are still a large portion of players that want to see more than just cosmetics added to the game. Fortunately, that may soon be coming true, as Fortnite may be planning to add mounted car guns and vehicle mods.

Fortnite is free-to-play for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
