Epic Games appears to be implementing a policy for the benefit of good Fortnite players caught up in bad situations. Epic is doing a great job so far of eliminating hackers, cheaters, griefers, and jerks from ruining Fortnite for other players, but sometimes a regular player throws red flags on accident and ends up mistakenly banned. While Epic can't give those players back their banned time, they can apologize and make players' returns a little sweeter.

According to Redditor windtcw, after Epic unbanned their account, they logged in and received a special message and prize -- 2000 V-Bucks:

"We incorrectly banned your account.  We're sorry and will be granting V-Bucks to your account to compensate for the error."

The Redditor says that his Fortnite account was originally banned all the way back in July, meaning that they'd been banned for over four months before Epic was able to confirm the mistake and undo the error. The ban was apparently due to the Fortnite player allowing their friend in a different country to log onto their account, triggering a red flag that Epic likely uses for bans to prevent hacked accounts from being used or sold.

2000 V-Bucks is unlikely to make up for four months of a disabled account to many Fortnite players, especially if they've previously bought battle passes or skins themselves. Still, the opportunity to return to one's account and immediately buy a battle pass and a skin is somewhat redeeming. Plus, the fact that Epic is willing to admit a mistake and apologize is rare in the gaming industry, even if it took several months longer than it should.

Mostly, though, news that Epic Games is doing anything at all to apologize for mistaken bans is going to be a well-received given the ongoing controversies within the community. Speculation that popular streamer Ninja is able to get players that he's frustrated with banned by calling them stream snipers has grown into a popular meme, but a meme that serves as a cautious warning. Epic's efforts against bad actors in Fortnite is to be commended, but only in effort to maintain the fun atmosphere of the game -- and not to harm that atmosphere. 2000 V-Bucks only goes so far.

Fortnite is available now on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and mobile devices.
