In past Fortnite Seasons, players only had to be on the lookout for secret battle stars. However, Fortnite Season 9 adds a brand new collectible for battle royale players to hunt down in the form of Fortbytes. There are a dozens of Fortbytes hidden around the battle royale map, with players gaining access to their clues as the season progresses.

One of the latest Fortbytes in Fortnite is Fortbyte 49. The clue to find Fortbyte 49 is "Found in Trog's Ice Cave." Veteran Fortnite players may only need the clue to go by, but those who are less familiar with the game's battle royale map might need a little more direction if they hope to find Trog's Ice Cave.

Trog, for the uninitiated, is Fortnite's version of the abominable snowman, and since he lives in an ice cave, it's not surprising that his home can be found in the winter biome. Added at the beginning of Season 7, the Fortnite winter biome is located in the southwestern portion of the battle royale map.

Here is where to find Fortbyte 49 and the ice cave in Fortnite battle royale, southeast of Frosty Flights and west of Happy Hamlet:

And for those that prefer a video guide, we recommend this one by HarryNinetyFour:

Upon arriving at Trog's Ice Cave and collecting Fortbyte 49, players may find themselves in direct conflict with other players. Right now, the area is sort of a hotbed for player activity, as some are lying in wait to ambush anyone looking for Fortbyte 49. Considering this, we recommend anyone going for Fortbyte 49 properly prepare themselves by collecting some weapons first.

Meanwhile, fan reaction to Fortbytes in Fortnite Season 9 seems to be mixed. There are some who enjoy having a lot more collectibles, but others who are disappointed that Fortbyte clues seem to have replaced hidden banners that players were able to collect in past seasons. It will be interesting to see if Fortbytes will return for the next season of Fortnite or if Epic Games will try something new instead.

Fortnite is out now in early access for Android, iOS, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
