With Chapter 3, Season 2 of Fortnite coming to an end, the Week 9 quests have arrived, tasking players with taking the fight to the IO forces spread across Island Artemis. As the battle rages on, Loopers are challenged to visit different IO command centers, both active and destroyed, as well as repair vehicles and fly unvaulted Choppas. One of the more time-based challenges this week involves a bit of spacial-awareness and map know-how to complete.

Ascenders were added to Fortnite along with the Zero Build Mode back at the start of this season to make traversal without building a much easier feat.

This week’s challenges ask players to use them and deal damage to opponents within 30 seconds, and while sounding trivial, the key to completing this quest lies in knowing the optimal location to carry it out. This guide will show players how to best complete this quest to get 20K XP closer to those high-level Battle Pass cosmetics.

How to Find and Use an Ascender

With most of the IO Airships now shot down by the Seven, arguably the best place to complete this challenge is at Command Cavern. While there are Ascenders dotted all over the map, particularly at the recently added Collider, Command Cavern offers much more potential with a reduced risk of encountering enemy players.

Here, Loopers can find one of the greatest concentrations of Ascenders in a single location; moreover, there are plenty of IO bots here ripe for dealing damage to, making this an ideal location for quickly finishing this quest.

As of Week 9, Command Cavern is the last location to feature an IO Airship, and, as such, there are two Ascenders directly below the blimp leading up to its lower levels.

Given that there are typically one or two IO officers patrolling these ships, fast players can make their way up and give these bots a few quick hits for the XP.

Including these two, there are five Ascenders in this area, each leading to areas typically guarded by IO forces. Two lead directly down into the Cavern, one on each side of the hangar opening; taking these down will place players on the walkway by the water, directly beside some vulnerable bots.

Another can be found in the northwest corner of Command Cavern, west of the buildings atop the mountain leading to the Airship; take this one up to the radar dish and the new Seige Cannons, where lucky Loopers can find a bot patrolling near the top.

To use an Ascender, players need only approach it and press the activate key on their controller or keyboard – by default, this is “Square” on PlayStation, “X” on Xbox, and “E” on PC.

If a teammate or opponent has recently used the Ascender, then players must wait for the grapple to return to the ground before it can be used again.

Fortnite is currently available for Android, Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
