There's no doubt that Fortnite fans have been given a considerable amount of content over the course of Season 4, especially when one takes into account that the long-awaited arrival of Jetpacks as a limited time item have finally made their way into the wildly popular multiplayer sandbox survival title. Just recently, though, one fan discovered an object that was unintentionally added to the free-to-play Battle Royale portion, leading many to wonder if it will make a return in the future.

As seen in the image further below from the Redditor and Fortnite player known as MrPopoTFS, the title's content update 4.2, which made its way onto servers yesterday, not only added the aforementioned Jetpacks, but also what was called an Eye of the Storm Tracker. According to Epic Games' Sean Hamilton, the item had been an idea the developer was testing, but the studio had not intended for everyone to see it. Unfortunately, Hamilton made no promises if it will ever make it into the title in an official capacity.

"We're always experimenting with and developing fun and creative items for our players. We mentioned in this week's Patch Notes that the Jetpack was the first of a new line of items called Backpacks. The Storm Tracker was an idea that was being tested for one of those backpacks.

"This was not intended to make it into the v4.2 Content Update and we can't promise this will ever officially be released. However, we do hope those who got their hands on it had fun while it lasted!"

With the Eye of the Storm Tracker item having been associated with a Backpack that's no longer in Fortnite, it's difficult to ascertain exactly what its features include. Many fans on the game's subreddit have asserted that the object allowed those carrying it to determine where the next safe zone would be. This seems to be the most likely explanation of its use, and if it ever made the cut for future content updates, the Eye of the Storm Tracker would help many with strategic planning as to where to go next on the map to avoid getting caught in the storm.

While Fortnite fans are surely disappointed to learn that the Eye of the Storm Tracker has been discontinued shortly after its discovery, they can at least take comfort in the knowledge that there's still plenty of content on-hand to enjoy, and surely even more on the way. For instance, players can currently tackle Season 4 Week 4's challenges, and they can also give the Solid Gold v2 Limited Time Mode a shot for a dose of added gameplay variety.

Fortnite is available now in early access for iOS, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
