Something big seems to be arriving in Fortnite. Epic's battle royale has often been one with teases that lead to great pay-offs, and the Fortnite Twitter account has been sending off a barrage of hints that indicate something is on the way.

Season 5 of Chapter 2 for Fortnite kicked off last month, and it came with many changes. Players of course were given map adjustments, a new battle pass, and more. But now something else seems to be happening. Over the past few hours, a bevy of tweets has been shot out of the official @FortniteGame Twitter account.

The tweets are very cryptic. They seem to be some type of distress call, the first being a call for help to Drift, a popular character from Season 5 of Chapter 1 of FortniteSpecifically, the first tweet reads "Drift? Drift. Come in. Do you read me?" Additional tweets claim that the Fox Clan is in need of help, Fox Clan being the group that Drift is a part of, the group that his mask represents.

Although multiple tweets went up over a series of an hour or so, it seems as if they have already been taken down, almost as if they were not allowed to be up in the first place. Someone is perhaps hiding something. While the battle royale has worked on a plethora of crossovers, with the latest being the addition of the Terminator to Fortnite, it looks like this storyline could be a callback to an original plot from years ago again which could be interesting.

In Season 5 of Chapter 2 alone, Fortnite has seen Predator, the Mandalore and Baby Yoda, and the aforementioned Terminator content. It is very interesting that these cryptic now-deleted tweets are discussing the Fox Clan and Drift, elements of Fortnite that are original. The team behind Fortnite created plenty of creative content without the crossovers before the likes of Batman, Marvel, Borderlands, Deadpool, and more. Whatever this secretive thing is, it has the chance to excite some of the old-school Fortnite fans who have a fondness for Fortnite outside of the crossover content.

As far as what this means for the game outside of lore--or if it is even lore at all--no one knows yet. Players do, however, have a $20 million dollar Fornite tournament to look forward to this year. Of course, the COVID concerns of 2020 took a lot of that away last year, so hopefully, plans will move forward much more smoothly in 2021.

Fortnite is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
