One of the most popular strategies in Fortnite right now is acquiring multiple pump shotguns, and instead of reloading the weapon when in a firefight, switching to another one in your inventory. This trick has made pump shotguns far too powerful in Fortnite, and so Epic has announced how it will fix the problem.

As part of update 3.0.0, Epic will effectively be nerfing pump shotguns in Fortnite by forcing players to pump the weapon before firing off a shot if they quickly switch to it. This means the pump shotgun can maintain its high level of damage while still being a more balanced weapon in the game.

As of now, Epic is only looking into applying this nerf to pump shotguns, but it's possible that future weapons will have similar changes made to them as well. Furthermore, if this change doesn't fix the balancing issues with the double pump shotgun strategy, Epic may decide to temporarily remove it from the game, as it has done with SMGs.

The sheer power of this double pump shotgun strategy has been a point of criticism for Fortnite for quite some time, so it's nice to see Epic finally tackle the issue head-on. And this is no small change, either. Many top Fortnite players rely on the double pump shotgun strategy to rack up kills, including the duo that holds the current kill record in the game.

It will be interesting to see how this double pump shotgun nerf changes the game. Theoretically, it will force players to rely on different weapons and strategies to earn Victory Royales, which should add some more variety to firefights.

It's worth pointing out that pump shotguns could be changed again later on in Epic's quest to make Fortnite as balanced as possible. After all, the game is still in early access, and will have many more updates in the months leading up to its proper launch.

Fortnite is available now in early access on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
