Fortnite season 2 chapter 2 is in full swing, and there's the additional bonus crossover of Deadpool hanging out in his bathroom lair. The event has fans searching for classic Deadpool items like his unicorn, chimichangas, and his dual katanas, but the Merc with a Mouth is just  the latest in a long line of incredible crossovers throughout Fortnite history.

Crossover events for Fortnite have ranged from as big as the Star Wars event to as small as the balloon on a sewer grate for It: Chapter 2. No matter the scope, Fortnite has been dedicated to impressing fans of all walks of life to celebrate the things they love. Some crossover events have been more satisfying than others, but the one thing players can't deny is the incredible attention to detail when it comes to these events.

Avengers: Infinity War

Fortnite Avenger Infinity War

One of the first massive crossover events was for the release of Avengers: Infinity War and launched in May of 2018 as a limited time mode (LTM).This LTM first introduced Thanos into Fortnite and to this day remains a fan favorite mode. Players would play a typical game of the battle royale, with the caveat being that Thanos' Infinity Gauntlet was somewhere in the map. Once the gauntlet was picked up, players would drop all of their loot and turn into Thanos himself.

Wreck-It Ralph: Ralph Breaks the Internet

Not long afterward, Disney allowed a crossover moment with Ralph Breaks the Internet and Fortnite. The in-game experience was pretty negligible as it just showed Ralph running across the big screen in Risky Reels.  However, the true crossover came during the movie itself, which featured several shout-outs to Fortnite including Ralph dancing the floss.

Avengers: Endgame

The mashup between Thanos and Fortnite was so popular that it was finally brought back just before the release of Avengers: Endgame. Epic Games finally released customized skins and even had a mode that allowed the Avengers to fight against Thanos, which was the start of some serious crossovers.

Batman and Harley Quinn

Not to be outdone, DC finally entered the Fortnite ring, bringing with it a Batman skin. With full cape and cowl, Batman made his first appearance in Fortnite with a limited-time location of Gotham City and a grappling hook that let players swing from great distances while dealing damage to enemies.

On top of the Caped Crusader, there were also signs of Joker hidden not only in Gotham City but also secret tasks all throughout the map.  Catwoman also made an appearance as a purchasable skin, and then more recently Harley Quinn entered the ring to promote the new Birds of Prey movie. This event was right around the time that superheroes were having their hey-day but also paved the groundwork for other popular movie titles to mashup with Fortnite.

John Wick

2018 versus 2019 John Wick in Fortnite

One of the most beloved skins and mashups is John Wick from his rossover which launched just before John Wick 3: Parabellum. This crossover happened in 2018 and then was later brought back in 2019 as another LTM. This mashup allowed players to buy the John Wick skin, Halle Berry's character Sophia skin, back bling, and players could even travel to John Wick's house in-game.

Towards the end of last year, John Wick LTM was brought back for the holidays reminding fans just how amazing this mashup truly was. The LTM was a bounty-style hunt, where squads would earn tokens for every kill they received and having an extended three lives before complete elimination. The LTM lasted through the Winterfest event and soon ended within the new year.

Stranger Things

Stranger Things Crossover event with Fortnite

In the middle of 2019, Epic Games announced at E3 that they would be adding a Stranger Things crossover event, and fans of the Netflix sci-fi series rushed to download the latest Hopper and Demogorgon skins. These two skins were outstanding, but what was truly amazing was how the map had transformed. Houses had rifts, appearing like they were portals to the infamous Upsidedown. Instead, these would just transport players to new areas around the map, and there was even a Scoops Ahoy ice cream shop located in the Mega Mall for players to visit. This crossover preceded the release of season 3 of Stranger Things, and fit in comfortably to the ever-mysterious world of Fortnite.

NFL

Fortnite Introduced NFL skins in 2018, and brought them back in 2020

In this crossover, players were able to buy one NFL pack which included all 32 team jerseys and were able to customize the number to represent their favorite player. In 2020, Fortnite brought back the NFL skins and added two more specialty jerseys for the Superbowl teams. This was one of the first events to include sports in Fortnite and was shortly followed by a few World Cup soccer jerseys. Skins have always been a big part of Fortnite history, but this goes to show that it is typically the events with challenges and live events that truly tap into a larger fandom.

Star Wars

The first mention of Star Wars in Fortnite began in 2018 when Epic launched the stormtrooper skins which was aligned with the launch of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. If players looked closely in the game, they could also see an Imperial Star Destroyer cruising in the Fortnite sky, and for a while, that was all there was. There were no challenges or extra items, and many fans were disappointed in the crossover event. It wasn't until December of 2019 that Epic announced it would be releasing a scene from the upcoming Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker. Fans were pretty skeptical, as events had mainly involved skins and few in-game surprises, but this was one was way better than anyone expected.

The event started midday on a Saturday, and players were told to log in at a certain time, which ended up overloading the servers. For those who couldn't log in, most turned to Twitch or other live streams to view the event. JJ Abrams (director and writer) dressed as himself and Ben Schwartz (comedian and voice of BB8 and Sonic) dressed as a stormtrooper both flew in on the Millenium Falcon while introducing the world to the first look at Rise of Skywalker.

Players were then treated to an array of lightsabers that for a limited time could be found throughout the map, not to mention the Rey, Finn, and Sith trooper skins that paired nicely with tie-fighter gliders. Then, on top of everything Fortnite provided to fully geek out Star Wars fans everywhere, there were also downed tie-fighters with roaming stormtrooper NPCs that players could pick up a first-order blaster with unlimited ammo. This had to be one of the first iterations of the Henchmen seen in today's version of Fortnite.

After a long run of Fortnite events, it looks like the culmination of Epic Games' hard work has resulted in the latest Deadpool challenges. Fans who have purchased the Battle Pass have plenty of opportunities to unlock Deadpool's gear. Many expect that a Deadpool skin is not far off, and some even theorize whether there will be an additional LTM for the Merc with a Mouth. Deadpool's track record has always been to break the fourth wall, and this might be the perfect game for the Regenerating Degenerate to make several appearances.

Fortnite is available now on Android, iOS, PC, PlayStation 4, Switch, and Xbox One.
