A number of new quests are now available in Fortnite, and one of them instructs players to complete a Sideways encounter. Due to the fact that the Sideways is a brand new addition in Fortnite Season 8, some fans may be quite confused about how to even begin tackling this task. Fortunately, it is not extremely difficult to find the Sideways and complete an encounter within it, and this guide has full details on the process.

How to Enter the Sideways in Fortnite

The first step toward completing this quest is to enter the Sideways, and that can be done by locating a Sideways Anomaly. These Anomalies initially have the appearance of purple rifts, and they will expand into large orange domes when they are approached. Notably, Anomalies are marked on Fortnite’s map with purple rift icons, and their precise positions change every match.

One additional thing to mention is that players can also enter this “monster-filled reality” by visiting a Sideways Zone, which are points of interest that have been fully taken over by the Sideways. As with Anomalies, the location of the Sideways Zone is not constant from one match to the next, and Fortnite fans can use their maps to track it down. However, players cannot complete a Sideways encounter in the Sideways Zone, and this type of area should thus not be targeted for the purposes of finishing the quest detailed in this guide.

How to Complete a Sideways Encounter in Fortnite

Once a player locates and enters the Sideways through an Anomaly, they will find themselves immediately in the midst of a Sideways encounter. These encounters center around dispatching waves of Cube Monsters, with each elimination adding to the yellow bar that is positioned near the top of the screen. In order to complete a Sideways encounter, fans must fill that bar completely without getting knocked out themselves, and it is advisable to grab some powerful weapons in Fortnite before engaging.

Indeed, while players can find a couple of different Sideways weapons while they are inside an Anomaly, it is typically better to prepare a bit before entering. Fans that do not heed this warning and go in without any weapons in hand may find themselves quickly dispatched by a horde of Cube Monsters or even an opposing player. If that occurs, the player will not get credit for completing the Sideways encounter, and they will need to start this Fortnite Season 8 quest all over again.

Fortnite is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
