As the Halloween season looms in Fortnite Battle Royale, Epic Games will not only be adding holiday-appropriate decorations all around the map, but also it will be maintaining the title with standard updates and quality of life changes. For instance, Update 6.01 recently brought a new item to the game called a Chiller Trap, while also incorporating new custom options for the free-to-play release's Playground mode.

As seen in the short clip below, Fortnite's new Chiller Trap will reduce friction and send opponents sliding away depending on how fast they hit it. This new item ought to be a particularly effective weapon for anyone who wants to send opposing players careening off a steep edge of a cliff, or off a tall user-constructed ramp of some kind. Plus, it's a common trap that can be placed on floors, walls, and ceilings, so players should expect to encounter the item quite frequently.

In addition to the new Chiller Trap, Epic Games has also brought about a bunch of custom options to Fortnite's Playground Mode that will allow players to change settings such as starting health, time of day, gravity, and more. Not only should these changes help players become more proficient at certain aspects of the game, but also they will likely help Epic further determine how to better refine Playground Mode.

All things considered, with Season 6 in full swing, it should come as no surprise to Fortnite fans that Epic Games is steadily pumping the free-to-play title full of fresh wares, with the studio also having teased a dance-heavy Disco Domination LTM to come. With such disparate types of content coming to the game, there's no telling what the developer will come up with next to keep fans engaged with the title.

Fortnite is available now in early access for iOS, Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. An Android beta is currently underway.
