Alongside a myriad of changes to Epic Games' battle royale title Fortnite in the version 7.30 update, the developer has seen fit to add a new ice-based grenade appropriately called the Chiller Grenade. Likely inspired by on-going wintry events on the battle island or the now-vaulted Chiller trap, this grenade may not exactly work as many expected.

By the name, many believed this grenade would temporarily freeze opponents in place, combining a serious snare with the flexibility of a grenade. Yet, it does appear that this Fortnite item takes more after the aforementioned trap than originally believed, as this grenade essentially ices the feet of the enemy, making them slip and slide back from the direction of the blast. While this does have its benefits, it doesn't seem as debilitating as the Boogie Bomb, and the enemies will still be able to shoot with iced feet.

This grenade will also affect allies, enemies, and even vehicles for a total duration of 7 seconds. They are of common rarity, dropping in stacks of 3 to a max stack size of 6. Lastly, it can also be found in Fortnite from Floor Loot and Vending Machines. While its influence on the meta remains to be seen, it does not seem it will be as damaging as many believed beforehand.

Of course, that doesn't mean that there won't be some impressive kills with this latest addition, as is the norm when a new weapon/item works its way into the battle royale title, though some worry about the focus on winter items. Considering another wintry item, the Sneaky Snowman, was recently added to Fortnite, it does not seem like the winter biome is going anywhere anytime soon, even after season 7 eventually comes to an end.

Taking all of this into consideration, this chiller grenade is the latest addition of changes on the battle island. While it remains to be seen how far these changes go, Fortnite's v7.30 update has included other changes like some major weapons being vaulted. That said, while the developer is adding a slew of winter-based items, many are left asking when the Driftboard will actually be added to the battle royale title.

Fortnite is out now in early access for Android, iOS, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
