By now, fans have grown used to superheroes like Iron Man and Wolverine roaming the Fortnite map. Now that players have had some time to experiment with the Mythic Weapons based on these Marvel icons, it seems that developers are prepping to introduce yet another hero.

Fortnite leakers @SizzyLeaks and @AthenaBigBoi have tweeted a video that shows new "particle" graphics that are labeled for a mysterious character, "Cherry." Gaming veterans were quick to point out that this was most certainly a placeholder for a character yet to be introduced in Season 4, with the two most likely candidates boiling down to Captain Marvel and Ghost Rider.

The visual effects found by the dataminers all seem to be sorts of fiery, burning, effects. Nonetheless, the main fact in support of the Captain Marvel theory is that her name begins with the letter "C," as does the word "Cherry." Moreover, the ultra-powerful hero has been depicted on Fortnite promo images featuring heroes like Black Panther, who have already been introduced. Specifically, the visual assets could be related to the human/Kree hybrid's energy-blast powers, or blazing flight trails.

On the other hand, Ghost Rider, though less directly related to the word "Cherry," has been teased as well, and employs a plethora of fire-based abilities. Some of the assets in question are also labeled "fireball," which would certainly be within the scope of Ghost Rider's abilities. That said, it's hard to believe he'd be chosen, considering he lacks Captain Marvel's currently active fandom/relevance to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

It may seem a bit confusing at first, but the room shown in the video is actually very neatly organized. There is essentially a grid of "effects" on display in the room, some visible, others not so much. Each effect's file name is on display just above its "square." These file names are another bit of evidence arguably in support of Captain Marvel. Things like "fireball" are a bit more ambiguous, but many of the listed effects are labeled with modifiers like "charged" and "explode." The idea that these fire effects vary depending on "charge" is very well-aligned with Captain Marvel's own powers.

Regardless of theory, fans should take advantage of @SizzyLeaks and @AthenaBigBoi's unique window into the game's inner workings. Even reliable Fortnite leaks often consist of only a few sentences, (possibly) an image, and the word "confirmed" - few leakers are able to back up their claims with substantial visual evidence.

Fortnite is available now on the Epic Games Store, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
