Fortnite has accrued an expansive arsenal over the years, with the battle royale title able to pull from a number of options in its ever-increasing vault. The current season is even giving players the option to vote on bringing certain weapons back into circulation. While there's been no official announcement on a Fortnite Chapter 3, one of the next season's weapons has already leaked: the new throwable axe weapon.

Epic Games' popular free-to-play title is in the final few weeks of its Season 8. The "Cubed" season has seen the central point of the island steadily develop into a geometric mecca known as The Pyramid. The current season has also seen the highly-requested Naruto crossover finally happen, bringing the entirety of Team 7 onto the island including Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura, and Kakashi.

Reputable Fortnite leaker and dataminer HYPEX reveale two screenshots of the weapon model for a new "throwable axe" item. HYPEX includes a comment with the pair of images, saying that there isn't any other information regarding them, just the rendered model in the game files. Looking closer at the axe, there are several stickers and a keychain-like attachment on the handle of Meowscles, which could mean the muscular cat may have something to do with it. Fortnite fans have been guessing its relation in the comments, from Dead by Daylight's Huntress to God of War's Leviathan Axe.

While the fan guesses range far and wide, one thing the majority seem to agree on is that it won't arrive in-game until next season, which is by and large believed to be the beginning of Fortnite Chapter 3. The biggest reason it seems for the belief is the fact that another throwable item, Naruto's Paper Bomb Kunai, was just added to the game a few days ago. The ninja weapon sticks to most surfaces and explodes a few seconds after impact, and can be thrown great distances.

Fortnite's throwable axe weapon leak is indicative of an exciting season, although another leak could be far more significant. HYPEX has also recently revealed that a sliding mechanic could be coming to Fortnite. The leaker revealed a loading screen expected to come during Chapter 3 that features the slide mechanic, although they don't know exactly when it will be implemented. HYPEX did reveal some details regarding the move however, including a two-second cooldown, and that a field-of-vision shift and camera shake will occur when sliding.

Fortnite's leaxed throwable axe weapon, whatever its features may be, looks to be another dynamic addition to the battle royale's already diverse arsenal. The throwable axe and sliding mechanic may be just the beginning for Fortnite Chapter 3, as a crossover with The Matrix has also leaked online.

Fortnite is free-to-play on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
