The event that Fortnite players have been waiting for has arrived, with the Chapter-ending Fracture event starting later today. Like with previous major events, Fortnite players interested in participating in Fracture will have to log into Fortnite at a specific time. Fracture is a live event; once it's over, it's over. There are no repeats and the changes that occur as a result of the event will alter Fortnite permanently. As such, Fortnite players may want to ensure their schedule is open for Saturday afternoon.Chapter 3 Season 4 of Fortnite has focused on a new villainous substance named Chrome. Chrome is a liquid metal that absorbs everything it touches, including several major Fortnite characters. Throughout the season, the Chrome has spread across Fortnite's map leading to many structures being lifted off the ground and moved to protect them. Meanwhile, Paradigm of The Seven teleported off-world where she worked, alongside Jonesy, the AI AIME, and the player, to figure out a way to survive reality being destroyed.RELATED: New Fortnite Image Teases Fracture EventFracture is what happens next. It officially begins in-game at 4:00 PM ET, but players should log on in the half-hour prior in preparation. Those who are late will be able to join the event-in-progress up until 4:40 PM ET, but after that Fortnite players will have to see what they missed on YouTube. After it's over, it's expected that Fortnite's servers will go down for several days as Epic Games "reboots" the game for Chapter 4.

As for what is expected to happen during the Fracture event, Epic has managed to be surprisingly secretive. Paradigm says that players' reality will be destroyed. Teasers for the event show the earth breaking into pieces and NPCs floating in space. But how exactly the Chrome, the mysterious Herald, and the once again unstable Zero Point bring about reality's end is up to players to discover.

While not confirmed, it seems increasingly clear that Chapter 4 of Fortnite will begin with a new map. Pieces of the current map, popular landmarks lifted into the air by No Sweat Insurance, will likely find their way onto whatever Epic Games is creating next. Fracture will be the climactic transition to an exciting new era of Fortnite.

What's next for Fortnite will be revealed in time, but what's important at the moment is that Fortnite events are almost always worth experiencing first-hand. They tend to be bombastic, exciting, and fun in a way that's unlike much else in video games, even if they're overall rather silly and simple. Fracture starts today at 4:00 PM ET and Fortnite players won't want to miss it.

Fortnite is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and mobile devices.
