Since its launch back in 2017, Fortnite's incredibly popular Battle Royale has continued to evolve and change both with new content, maps, and mechanics. Not only has Fortnite brought in a surprising amount of crossover content from franchises like Marvel, Star Wars, DC, and more, but the game's story line has continued to take shape and evolve over the years as well. The latest change, known as Chapter 3, has brought with it a wealth of changes.

Fortnite Chapter 3 has literally flipped the Battle Royale Island, bringing in a completely new map as well as gameplay mechanics like sliding and even swiging around the map like Spider-Man. In fact, the wall-crawler is the latest addition to Fortnite, joining the ever expanding ranks of licensed content including the just revealed addition of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson who was confirmed to be the mysterious character Foundation.

What is the Victory Crown?

During matches in Season 3, players may notice some characters wearing golden llama crowns as they run around the island. This is the new Victory Crown item, which gives elite players bragging rights of sorts during their matches. Not only does this item make you stand out among the other players, but it also grants a few bonus perks for those wearing it.

Here are the Ways to Earn a Victory Crown

In Chapter 3, Fortnite now really rewards players who are able to win a match. No matter which mode is being played, a Victory Crown will be available to earn. Here is the breakdown of how to earn a Victory Crown depending on which mode is being played:

  • Solos - The final four players.
  • Duos - Players in the top two teams.
  • Trios - Players in the top team.
  • Squads - Players in the top team.

Ultimately, the results screen at the end of the match will reveal who has qualified for a llama crown. Upon loading into the next match, the crown will be equipped automatically.

However, it's worth noting that just because a player has a crown, doesn't mean it'll finish the match with them. In fact, players can loot a Victory Crown off of another player who has been defeated while wearing it. Dropped crowns appear as an icon on the minimap, which will likely cause an influx of players to seek them out as it not only awards XP for being looted, but wearing a crown gives off a few benefits as well.

Victory Crown Benefits and Perks

While mainly to show off, the crown also has a few perks which will likely make the item sought after, either by earning it or stealing it from someone else. While the crown is equipped, the player's name will be highlighted in gold, it generates a golden halo around the player, as well as gives access to additional XP for kills, killstreaks, and taking out another crown wearer.

As if that wasn't enough, winning a match with a crown is known as a Crowned Victory and unlocks a free emote that displays the amount of crowned victories the player has earned while playing Fortnite. Either way, this is likely going to be the new must have item, if not just for the bonus XP it provides, which will no doubt help players run through the new Fortnite Chapter 3 Battle Pass unlocks.

Fortnite is free-to-play on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
