The blockbuster battle royale game Fortnite is now live with the new Season 8 update, known simply as "Cubed." This update comes with a new Battle Pass featuring eight new Fortnite skins, including a mystery skin that will be uncovered as players progress through the Battle Pass.

Most of the skins available in the Battle Pass appear to be original skins created specifically for the game, but at least one is an existing character--in fact, he's one of the darkest Marvel characters to make it into Fortnite. If Venom is what happens when a Symbiote alien gets attached to someone who hates Spider-Man, Carnage is what happens when one gets attached to a serial killer, and even in Fortnite, he comes off as a menacing figure.

In the new trailer for Season 8's Battle Pass, the Fortnite team don't just show off most of the new skins, including Carnage--they also draw attention to the main conflict of Season 8. Several skins packaged in the Battle Pass will also be found as NPCs scattered throughout the game, including Fabio Sparklemane, J.B. Chimpanski, Charlotte, Toona Fish, Kor, and Torin, the apparent central character of the season who takes center stage in the key art.

The trailer itself begins with a long shot focusing on the Cube players affectionately nicknamed Kevin before revealing that it's spreading corruption and opening portals to a dark, monster-filled dimension called the Sideways, all while a deep feminine voice warns that players should've known that "we" would return.

The video showcases the new skins gliding, shooting, and traveling closer to a downed spaceship, all while the voice announces that players didn't save their reality--they just prepared it for an army of glowing, rock-like monsters and an ominous masked figure. It also shows off some new mechanics in the Sideways, including low-gravity jumps and new weapons. Finally, the voice commands players to rally their defenses, even though by the time she's done, only nothingness will remain. The video then cuts to the Season 8 key art, which shows the long-haired silhouette of the mystery skin. It seems the aftermath of the Operation Sky Fire event and the arrival of the cubes will have significant consequences.

As of this writing, it appears that fans are looking forward to this new chapter in the story and growing skin library of Fortnite. Several fans have expressed enthusiasm to see Kevin again, even if the Cube appears to be malevolent. One user commented that Fortnightmares is likely to be incredible this year, while another stated they're happy there's another organization for players to fight. A third user pre-emptively claimed that Season 8 will be much better than Season 7, though they didn't provide specific reasons.

Fortnite is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
