Epic Games' battle royale Fortnite is officially three weeks into its latest season of content: Chapter 2, Season 3 - Splashdown. It is still going strong with new additions like extra punch cards thanks to the 13.20 update, but even so some fans are undoubtedly wondering when the flooded map will finish draining so something new can begin in Season 4.
Lots of content coming throughout the rest of Splashdown has been leaked by dataminers, especially after the recent update. For instance, the final version of the draining map has leaked to show a few changes, such as bodies of land rising in the southern portion of the island. While there's no indication as to when the map will reach this final stage, according to Epic Games' website the current season's Battle Pass is set to end on August 26, meaning everything should be wrapped up by then.
That being said, this end date is merely an indication of what Epic Games currently has planned to be the end date for Splashdown. Season 2 was extended three separate times leading up to the big doomsday event that ended with the flood, the third delay made in solidarity with Black Lives Matter protests and demonstrations around the world.
Because of those multiple extensions, many felt the last season of content got long in the tooth rather quickly, so it would behoove Epic Games to try and keep to a consistent schedule for introducing the next big thing. Luckily, even if the overall theme of each season in the battle royale lasts longer than expected, Fortnite still sees new content for players throughout, including weekly challenges to earn experience points for the Battle Pass.
At the same time, smaller events are starting to be peppered throughout Season 3 to add content not necessarily related to the water theming. Fortnite just announced it is adding Captain America as a skin to celebrate the Fourth of July, though that Marvel Comics character does clash somewhat with Splashdown's leading crossover that introduced DC Comics' Aquaman.
Whether or not fans are interested in the water-based shenanigans of Season 3 or its multitude of superhero media crossovers, it seems they will have to wait until at least the end of August before getting the next big shake-up. Given Fortnite's history with delays, this could be even longer, but here's hoping that things go according to schedule this time around.
