The end is near, just not as near as it was yesterday. After weeks of overtime, it turns out that Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 2 will be ending a little later than expected, because Epic Games announced that the start of Season 3 has been delayed by a full week.

This comes just two days before Season 2 was expected to wrap up with the unveiling of the mysterious and frequently-leaked doomsday device being constructed inside the Agency ahead of Season 3’s start on June 4. Alas, Epic has confirmed today that, “in an effort to get everything ready” for the game’s next big batch of changes, Season 3 will now start on June 11 instead.

Similarly, the likely doomsday event that the game has been counting down to this week has also been delayed. This “one-time-only live event called The Device,” which was originally going to happen on May 30, is now scheduled to take place next Saturday, June 6, at 11:00 AM PST/2:00 PM EST, though Epic suggests players show up 30 minutes early to secure a spot, as space will be limited.

On one hand, these delays are fairly mild compared to when Epic delayed Season 3 from its original start date of April 30, but that’s not likely to be of much assurance for players who have been frustrated by all of the setbacks the game has seen this year. Both of Chapter 2’s seasons so far have seen lengthy delays, slowing down the flow of substantial new content by a noticeable margin, which is just one of the issues many fans have had with Fortnite Chapter 2.

On the other hand, it can’t be denied that Season 2 has been one of the busiest seasons of Fortnite yet in spite of that. Since it began it late February, it’s introduced a slew of spy-themed content, including new locations that have changed considerably over the last three months. Additionally, players have been treated to things like Deadpool skins and in-game events such as Travis Scott’s Astronomical concerts and the debut of the new trailer for the movie Tenet.

Players have also had a fair number of fresh challenges to carry them through this overtime period, with the latest ones like Location Domination and Storm The Agency giving them something to tackle over the coming week while they wait for Season 3 to really heat things up again.

Fortnite is free-to-play on Mobile, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
