Looks like Fortnite Chapter 2 is going two for two with seasonal delays. After extending the first season of the game following its big relaunch last year, Epic Games has announced that it will be doing the same for the current one.

Originally, the developer was planning to start Season 3 on April 30, but today it confirmed that it has pushed that date back to June 4, meaning fans will have to wait until the start of summer to see what Epic has in store for the game beyond the spy-themed content it’s been bringing with Season 2.

Epic didn’t give an explanation for the delay, but given the state of the world these days, the coronavirus pandemic may very well have something to do with it. With so many things being delayed and other game developments being affected by the need to avoid the spread of COVID-19, it’s very likely that the developers at Epic are facing a similar dilemma and are thus unable to get all of the new content for Season 3’s launch ready by the end of this month.

Whatever the reasons for Season 3’s delay, Epic assured players that there’ll still be “lots of content” to look forward to before Fortnite Season 2 wraps up. “We have multiple game updates on the way that will deliver fresh gameplay, new Challenges, bonus XP, and a couple more surprises up our sleeve!” the developer wrote, while jokingly reminding players that they’ll now have more time and ways to unlock Season 2’s gold skins.

Players therefore won’t be wanting for new things, just not on the scale of a new season’s launch. That by itself probably won't ruin the game for many, as long as they have new things to look forward to, but it probably won’t help soothe the frustrations players have with Fortnite these days, including a number of issues that many feel have lowered the quality of life for the popular battle royale shooter.

Time will tell if Epic ever gets around to addressing those complaints, but at the very least, it looks like there are some interesting changes on the horizon for Fortnite. The past few weeks have seen dataminers uncover intriguing additions to the game’s files suggesting, among other things, that Fortnite may soon have another world-ending event.

Fortnite is free-to-play on Mobile, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
