With Halloween arriving later this week, many games have started their annual themed events like Apex Legends, Borderlands 3, and more. Fortnite is also getting in on the spooky season by bringing back its Fortnitemares starting today where zombie type creatures invade the already crowded Battle Royale map. In addition to plenty of new cosmetic skins to unlock or purchase, players also have a collection of challenges to overcome during the limited time event.

The main Fortnite event kicks off officially at 9AM ET, but dataminers like Lucas7yoshi have already been able to uncover the complete challenge list. This year, players are going toe to toe with a large purple creature known as The Storm King. Various medals can be earned from battling this beast including:

  • Storm King Medal – Broke the Storm King’s first horn
  • Storm King Medal Upgraded – Broke the Storm King’s second horn
  • Storm king Medal Maxed – Defeated the Storm King
  • Monster K.O.
  • Weak spot destroyed

Traditional challenges are also available that reward plenty of XP for the trouble as well as sprays, icons, and more. Here are the set of Fortnitemares challenges:

  • Destroy all haunted household furniture (0/5)
  • Leap from a Hideout while an opposing player is within 20 metres (0/1)
  • Search a chest in a haunted forest, a ghost town and a spooky farm (0/1)
  • Deal damage to Storm king weak points (0/10,000)
  • Revive teammates while battling the Storm King (0/3)
  • Defeat the Storm King (0/1)

Further leaks indicate that the source of this event is at the center of the new Chapter 2 map where a purple mini storm can now be seen. It's likely that the Storm King resides here and where most players will need to go in order to attempt to finish many of the challenges and medals.

Naturally, limited time cosmetics are also available like the Storm Sail Glider and the Hemlock skin which turns the player character into a witch. New guns have also been added including an assault rifle and the return of the Pumpkin Rocket Launcher from last year's event with the mysterious Purple Cube.

Fortnite is out now for iOS, Android, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
