Fortnite is still going strong into 2020, much to no one in the gaming community's surprise. The Fortnite community is still riding high on this year’s in-game Fortnite Valentine’s Day event, which was actually a revival of the previous year’s Love and War event, which lasts until February 17. Like any good Fortnite event, there are plenty of cosmetic rewards for players to earn throughout its duration. Additionally, the event also brought Search and Destroy to the battle royale which offers a new way to play.

However, Fortnite players on PS4 actually have the chance to enter into an exclusive event called the Celebration Cup. The Celebration Cup is a PS4-centered event that allows players to participate for a chance to enter into a huge prize pool. Since this event is console-oriented on the PS4, there is no fear of players using mouse and keyboard setups completely dominating those players on controllers. The event is completely free to enter, so PS4 players should capitalize on this opportunity.

Entering the Celebration Cup

As mentioned above, the Celebration Cup is a PS4 exclusive event, meaning players on Xbox One, PC, and mobile can’t compete or participate in any way. The tournament began on February 15, so the event is currently in full swing. The Celebration Cup is offering PS4 players a chance to earn some free cosmetics as well as the chance to earn a portion of the $1,000,000 prize pool.

To join Celebration Cup singles, players just need to navigate to the ‘Compete’ tab, meaning players won’t be competing in the cup if they are just playing in regular Solo matches. On the first day, players had the chance to earn three different cosmetics depending on what top percentage they ended up placing in after the first day of competition had completed. While these cosmetics may not be ‘Rick Astley Emote’ levels of good, they’re certainly a display of skill.

Celebration Cup Rules

The big prizes start on February 16, where players can begin playing for the chance to take home a portion of the $1,000,000 prize pool. Thankfully, that prize pool won’t have to make up for any V-bucks taxes players were worried about recently. It’s important to note that the competition is only available in three hour intervals globally, so players must know their local time zones in order to participate in the event. For example, Eastern North America goes from 7 p.m. – 10 p.m. while Western North America goes from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m.

The Celebration cup works off of a point-based scoring system, meaning each placement earns players a different amount of total points. For instance, Victory Royales will earn players 10 points, while 2nd through 5th place earns 7 points. Lastly, the prize pool breakdown ranges from different cash prizes depending on player rank. The ranking goes from 1st place all the way down to 1000th place, meaning even those who place somewhat low can still win prize money.

This Celebration Cup is a pretty substantial event for players on PS4 to participate in, as it gives players all over the world who play on the system the chance to earn real cash just from competing at home. While Epic Games' CEO recently compared loot boxes to gambling, it seems that Epic Games has no problem sharing some of its immense loot box earnings with the PS4 Fortnite community – at least for this event.

Fortnite is out now for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Android, Xbox One, iOS, and PC.
