This week it is the first anniversary of Fortnite's release and developer Epic Games is hoping to celebrate in style. A major birthday update has introduced an in-game event that adds birthday cakes to the map, as well as special birthday-themed cosmetics for players to collect. That's not all, though, as the update also added a fun new Easter egg.

The Easter egg is in reference to a Fortnite player named Chappadoodle who was part of a recent rescue attempt from popular YouTuber Muselk. After Muselk finds an All Terrain Kart on the edge of the map, he investigates and discovers a player (Chappadoodle) who has gotten themselves stuck. To try and rescue Chappadoodle, Muselk then uses his resources to build some stairs but a block ultimately prevents the staircase from reaching the player.

Muselk tries to use the ATK's roof to reach Chappadoodle, but the vehicle winds up careering off of the map, hitting Chappadoodle and killing the stranded player. Per Muselk's tests after the incident, it seems that the ATK roof method would have been able to rescue Chappadoodle after all, had it not knocked the player off of the map.

The video of Muselk's rescue attempt went viral after the official Fortnite Twitter posted the clip, getting more than 70,000 retweets and almost a quarter of a million likes. With fans responding so positively to the events, it was only fitting that Epic Games decided to commemorate it in-game. Following the Fortnite birthday update, fans have been able to locate a tombstone next to a pile of tires in reference to Muselk's botched rescue attempt. Fans have also responded positively to this, calling the Easter egg "the best" and saying the moment will "never be forgotten."

This isn't the first time that Epic Games has added a fun little Easter egg for Fortnite players to find. In season four, Epic added green screens allowing players to make their own movies and montages using their characters. The game has also featured hints and teasers for upcoming content, giving players an extra bit of content to uncover and speculate on.

However, this appears to be the first Easter egg added directly because of a viral community moment, and many are seeing it as a testament to fans' creativity. Fortnite fans have also made headlines for their custom skin creations, for hilarious kills, and more, and this is confirmation that not only has Epic Games' taken notice, but also that it wants to incorporate its appreciation in the game itself.

Fortnite is available on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and iOS devices. A launch on Android is expected for summer 2018.
