Fortnite is celebrating its fourth birthday in full Fortnite style, which means cosmetics, bright colors, a merch drop, and lots and lots of virtual dancing. The event is now live, bringing with it a variety of challenges and rewards, some of which provide gamers with a great excuse to throw stuff.

As part of the Fortnite Birthday Quests, players are tasked with throwing four Birthday Presents and dancing in front of four Cakes. Gamers are also asked to consume Birthday Cake during different matches and to gather resources from balloon decorations a total of 50 times.

Finding the large Cakes gamers are supposed to dance in front of will require visiting points of interest around the map, as there's a Cake for just about every named point of interest. However, it may be easier for players to just play the game as usual and let Birthday Presents come to them rather than deliberately seek the tiny cubes out. Players who do well will be able to earn Gold Bars and three different cosmetics as part of the Fortnite 2021 birthday event. The cosmetics in question are the 4 Me??? Back Bling, the Hooplah Hammer Pickaxe, and the 4? Score Emoticon.

Players have four days to complete the challenges and gather the rewards before the event ends on September 28 at 2 AM ET. Other new additions to Fortnite include a new Venom skin, a crossover with luxury fashion brand Balenciaga, and Season 8, known as the Cubed event. It could be argued that the reason so many events are happening at the same time is that this is another aspect of Fortnite celebrating its birthday. According to at least one reputable leaker, developers are working on another present for Fortnite players: a sliding movement mechanic that could change how the game is played.

It appears that Fortnite players are generally pleased about Fortnite's fourth birthday event. However, a few players have brought up past skins and cosmetics they wish to see brought back as part of the celebration, while others are using the official Twitter post to air out complaints about the Birthday Quests.

One fan even decided to celebrate the big day with a cake that features both Venom and Spider-Man, even though only one of those characters is implemented in Fortnite as of writing.

Carnage, who has also made his way into Fortnite, was not depicted on the cake.

Fortnite is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
