Where each player ranks in every Fortnite match greatly depends on where they drop and how much stuff they can gather before the storm begins to close in. While some locations on the Chapter 2 map are far denser with building materials, others have more treasure chests to loot. Some locations even have bosses that protect hidden vaults with powerful weapons locked inside.

Each location in Fortnite has it's own charm, though some are clearly better to drop at than others. Here are the five absolute best places to land once you hop out of the Battle Bus and five of the absolute worst.

10 Best: The Grotto

For a quick and effective way to bulk up on string guns and plenty of items, landing at the Grotto is a great idea. The Shadow hideout has two changing booths where players can disguise themselves as henchmen to navigate without having to attack any NPCs. Once inside the underground fortress, players will come across Brutus, the heavy-duty boss that has the key to get inside his secret vault. Blocking or destroying the sensors that trigger intruder gunfire will help players stay alive while they bring down the boss and snag all the epic loot inside the area, including Brutus' Minigun.

9 Worst: Weeping Woods

Landing in the woods will likely lead to finding sparsely dispersed chests and loot, with nothing too powerful or very necessary. Though players can gather plenty of wood at this location, it's lacking in valuable treasure chests and opportunities to build. Trees block views from all directions so players can't see when enemies are approaching, plus building fortresses can be difficult with so many natural obstacles in the way.

8 Best: Slurpy Swamp

The Slurpy Swamp has tons to discover, with plenty of Slurp Juice available all-around along with opportunities to level up weapons and escape on vehicles. The water of the swamp is mixed with Slurp Juice, the blue healing liquid that levels up the player's extra shield bar. No need to scour the map for big and small juice bottles, you can just hop into the water or chow down on some blue mushrooms and get full stats immediately.

There's also a weapon upgrading station in one of the buildings and plenty of materials to harvest so players can score a purple or gold weapon at the start of the game.

7 Worst: Lockie's Lighthouse

The lighthouse at the top of the map may appear exciting but looking cool is about all it offers. The area consists of two buildings and a tall, winding lighthouse with not many chests or lootable items to grab. It's also right on the edge of the map, requiring players to run great distances if the storm circle doesn't close in on their area. After spending too much time running up the super tall lighthouse, players will have to grab whatever few items they found and head out without a vehicle to the nearest edge of the rapidly closing circle.

6 Best: The Agency

Looking for a whirlwind of a dropping location that is sure to deliver great loot and plenty of potential action? The Agency is the place to go, if so! Located directly in the center of the map, the Agency is a massive Ghost facility filled with henchmen and turrets that are always on high alert. Though this is a hot spot for experienced players to land, making it even more of a challenge, it's one of the best places to go for some heavy-duty weapons and tons of other good loot. The golden NPC boss Midas has to be defeated in order to enter the hidden vault with tons of good items. You will also be able to snag his Mythic Drum Gun.

5 Worst: Sweaty Sands

This long section of beach and boardwalk looks promising, but it's nearly always a guarantee to meet an early grave. Many players end up dropping here, finding a weapon pretty quickly, and firing away at everyone until they own the entire spot.

Plus, it's difficult to navigate from building to building if you're not familiar with the area and the loot isn't even that phenomenal in most matches. Avoiding this area when dropping is ideal for new players.

4 Best: The Risky Reels

The Risky Reels lies near the center of the map, just a short run from the Agency. This area has plenty to offer, from every type of building material to a weapon upgrader and plenty of treasure chests to loot through. Stocking up on metal is easy at this location, with its incredible rows of cars lined up waiting to be turned into building materials. It is a drive-in movie theater, after all. Once players are done bulking up on resources from the Risky Reels, they can head nearby to the Agency to tackle Midas or to the Frenzy Farm to fight other players.

3 Worst: Homely Hills

The Homely Hills consist of five separate houses that take too long to navigate through for such minimal and mostly unexciting loot in return. They lie at the top of the map, just under Lockie's Lighthouse, making that entire area pretty awful to land at. Landing a bit further south at Pleasant Park is a much better option when trying to get a headstart in finding strong weapons and plenty of healing items.

2 Best: The Misty Meadows

This area is huge, with two sections of the town being divided by a bridge over a river. There are so many buildings to explore through, with tons of treasure chests and scattered loot throughout each one. The houses make great spots to harvest for materials and to hide from any approaching enemies.

In addition, after gathering enough wood, metal, and stone, players can head up the green mountain next to the Meadows to find Apres Ski, a big dance party lodge that has a weapon upgrader, or to the island on Lazy Lake just north of the town that has a mini Shadow hideout that also has an upgrader, along with other hidden surprises.

1 Worst: Retail Row

Though there are plenty of chests to find here, the spot is pretty dry and uneventful. There are no cool vehicles or Shadow/Ghost bases to fight through, and the loot can sometimes be pretty mediocre. Plus, the location lies just southwest of the Grotto where victorious players wielding powerful weapons will emerge from. It might not be the best place to drop when looking for a safe spot to harvest materials.
