Fortnite, more specifically its free-to-play battle royale mode, has become one of the most popular video games in the world. As the game continues to grow in popularity, it stands to reason that many are experiencing it for the first time. Those that may be new to the game could be wondering which materials they should use in intense building situations, and we have the answer.

In Fortnite, it's best to use wood materials when trying to build quickly in both offensive and defensive situations. While steel and brick are stronger building materials, wood will reach its max HP fastest, meaning that it will be slightly harder for enemies to destroy right away.

See this demonstrated by YouTuber Mtashed right here:

Another advantage to primarily using wood as a building material in intense situations like firefights is that it is quite plentiful. Players can find large stacks of wood by opening chests, or alternatively, they can use their pickaxes to tear down trees pretty much anywhere on the world map. In fact, there are numerous wooded areas on the map in Fortnite, making it relatively easy to scavenge for wood whenever necessary.

While wood is the superior building material in firefights, when brick or steel are completely built, they are the superior building materials. Brick and steel better used in situations where players aren't currently engaging with any enemies, and have the time to put together an actual fortress or more sophisticated building of some sort.

Hopefully this tip will help some players improve their Fortnite game. In the meantime, anyone looking for help in other areas of Fortnite, such as completing season 3's Week 6 challenges, should refer to our guide. Completing all of the challenges will net players stars, in addition to a whopping 4,000 XP.

Fortnite is available now in early access for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and iOS mobile devices.
