Fortnite Battle Royale has seen a surge of popularity in recent weeks. Although Battle Royale was already popular as is, the game has been mentioned on national television (it was featured in a segment on Good Morning America) and celebrity fans such as Drake, Travis Scott and NBA players have all expressed their love for the game. As a result, plenty of people are now flocking to Fortnite for the first time.

Fortnite developers Epic Games and People Can Fly seem to realize this, which is why they have now begun selling a Fortnite Battle Royale Starter Pack. Although the Starter Pack can be purchased by all players, it appeals to new players in particular. The Starter Pack is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One and costs $4.99. Despite online rumors, there are currently no official plans for the Starter Pack to be removed from sale.

The starter pack includes 600 V-Bucks, the Rogue Agent Outfit, and the Catalyst Back Bling. Players can use those 600 V-Bucks to save up for the next Battle Royale battle pass, future Battle Royale cosmetics, or they could use it on unlocks in Fortnite's Save the World mode.

Some fans of the game have done the math and figured out that the Starter Pack is equivalent to 120 V-Bucks per $1, which is one of the most efficient V-Bucks conversions offered. In comparison, if players buy 2,800 V-Bucks for $24.99 they are getting 112 V-Bucks per $1.

The game features a ton of cosmetic unlocks, from rainbow-themed gliders to skins based on sugary treats, not to mention cosmetics themed around holidays like Lunar New Year and St. Patrick's Day. The Fortnite team likely sees this Starter Pack as a good way to get new players interested in cosmetics, with players perhaps feeling inclined to keep spending money on future cosmetic purchases too.

Epic Games and People Can Fly already make a huge amount of money from the game, with a recent report revealing that Fortnite now makes more money than PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. It's clear that Fortnite has no trouble selling cosmetics as is, but deals like the Battle Royale Starter Pack could potentially grow this money-making, free to play game even further.

Fortnite is available now in early access for iOS, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, with Android support coming later in 2018.
