Fortnite is currently the largest battle royale game in the world, with more than 40 million downloads at the time of this writing. The game has a large player base spread out across PC, PS4, and Xbox One, and Epic Games has continuously updated the game to keep fans engaged. However, anyone hoping to see some more substantial updates for Fortnite - like a new map or the addition of vehicles - may be out of luck.

According to Epic Games, there are currently no plans to add new maps or vehicles to Fortnite. While the studio is open to the idea of making a new map at some point down the line, right now it is focused on improving the map currently in the game. In fact, Epic is planning a big update for Fortnite that will add five new locations to the game's current battle royale map, as well as tweak other aspects of it.

As far as vehicles go, Epic doesn't feel as though vehicles are necessary for the Fortnite experience. As explained by lead systems designer Eric Williamson:

"But we don’t have a need to add vehicles to get around the map because our travel times allow you to get mostly wherever you want to go. When we discuss vehicles, we talk about trying things with unique functionality and make it not just about going from point A to point B. That’s the extent of it."

Fortnite has disabled friendly fire.

Some Fortnite fans are undoubtedly disappointed to learn that no new maps or vehicles are currently in the works for the game. Others, meanwhile, may be satisfied with the content currently available in Fortnite, and would prefer that Epic focuses on other areas instead of trying to incorporate vehicles or busy themselves designing brand new maps from scratch.

Of course, the key difference between Fortnite and PUBG is that Fortnite's battle royale mode is free to play, which could have an impact on the kind of content Epic creates for the game. Regardless of whether or not Fortnite adds new maps or vehicles in the future, though, the game will continue to evolve in other areas in the months leading up to its full release.

Fortnite is available now in early access on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
