With Fortnite having recently surpassed its competitor PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds to become Twitch's most streamed and watched game, there's no doubt that the multiplayer sandbox survival title is a major phenomenon across its Mac, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One platforms. Now, though, it looks as if the game is set to expand its reach into the mobile market, with Epic Games having officially announced the decision to release the title's free-to-play Battle Royale portion for iOS and Android devices.

According to a recent blog post from Epic Games, fans can sign-up for the Fortnite Battle Royale Invite Event on iOS starting this Monday, March 12, with support for Android coming at some point within the next few months. In order to participate in this imminent event, it's important to note that one will need an Internet connection and iOS 11 on at least an iPhone 6S/SE, iPad Mini 4, iPad Pro, iPad Air 2, and iPad 2017 devices.

As explained by Epic, those who sign up for the Fortnite Battle Royale Invite Event for iOS will receive email invites. Upon reception of the email, the message will include a link to download the game from the App Store, as well as invite codes to share with others. Fans who don't immediately get an invite won't be left out, as the studio intends to add more players on a regular basis in the months to come.

Epic Games also revealed that it will be partnering with Sony to provide Fortnite Battle Royale fans with Cross Play and Cross Progression support between PS4, PC, Mac, iOS and eventually Android. With this being the case, players will be able to join up with friends across different devices in order to play with one another without being inhibited by not having the same piece of hardware. There's currently no word as to whether or not Xbox One will eventually be included in the mix.

All things considered, Epic Games appears to be going all-in on Fortnite Battle Royale, as the mobile market will undoubtedly allow the company to generate a huge sum of revenue from the game's free-to-play mode. While this will surely delight fans who primarily game on mobile devices, it will be interesting to see just how well the controls and mechanics for the title translate to the platform. With invites being sent out in the near future, though, we will likely know soon enough. And with Epic offering even more ways to play the game, a Nintendo Switch port will hopefully be in the cards at some point, too.

Fortnite Battle Royale is available now in early access for Mac, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, and is set to launch for iOS and Android devices soon.
