David "Aqua" Wang, a Fortnite World Cup Champion and Season 4 Fortnite Champion Series competitor is being accused of stream-sniping. The 18 year old player from Austria has reportedly received a 14 day ban by Epic Games as a result of these allegations.
The allegations of stream-sniping came about following some increasing drama between Aqua's squad, compromised of Aqua, Noahreyli, and Rezon, and their European rival team consisting of MrSavage, benjyfishy, and LeTsHe. The two trios both regularly land at the same location - Doom's Domain, and have been competing against each other for the past few weeks. Tension came to a head over the weekend when accusations of cheating and stream-sniping was aimed at Aqua.
Stream-sniping, is when a player watches a player on the enemy teams stream to gain advantage by finding the enemies location, seeing how much health the enemy has, or what weapons they are using. Stream-sniping is very hard to prove, and has become a serious problem in many competitive games, especially in battle royale style games, including Fortnite.
Initially fans and other players thought Aqua’s behavior seemed suspicious, which caused allegations to surface quickly. Information came out that aqua was watching MrSavage’s stream during the competition, which solidified opinions of fellow competitors that Aqua was indeed stream-sniping.
The other rule break in question is due to Aqua's actions during a fight with MrSavage's squad. After Aqua died, he immediately exited the game. He stated that his game crashed, however, the enemy team was not convinced. The players on MrSavage's team believe that Aqua left the game on purpose to prevent a shakedown, which would have shown the enemy team the location of Aqua's remaining teammates.
Due to the 14 day ban, neither Aqua nor his teammates Noahreyli or Rezon will not be eligible to compete in the Fortnite Champion Series (also known as FNCS), or the Grand Finals for the end of this season. Additionally, the banned players will be unable to play in any competitive tournaments, which will make them ineligible for any Cash Cups, other 3rd party tournaments, or able to play the arena mode on Fortnite for the next 14 days.
With Aqua's previous accomplishments, including winning $1.5 million from the Duo World Cup, it is unlikely the 14 day ban will slow down this competitor. The players themselves have been handling the situation lightly. Members from both teams have taken to Twitter to joke about the incident.
