For the last five years, Fortnite has been showing the rest of the industry how to make a live-service approach that actually benefits the player, as well as the developer. While some publishers have adopted the live-service approach just for a quick cash-grab, Epic Games understands that it needs to provide its player-base with a consistent stream of new content to keep them invested long after they first pick up the game. This is why Fortnite not only receives big content drops in the form of new Seasons, but also gets frequent updates that add new map areas and weapons, much like the recently released 22.10 update.

Fortnite's recent Chapter 3 Season 4 update added a new Chrome threat to the game which appears to be consuming the island one area at a time. On top of that, some new weapons and items were introduced, a new villain named The Herald appeared, and a plethora of new cosmetics were added. Just a few days ago, Fortnite received yet another updated. Simply titled the 22.10 update, this patch added a surprising amount of content to the game, ranging from even more map changes to some new weapon features.

Every Change In Fortnite's 22.10 Update

Fortnite Goo Gun

As is often the case with these smaller Fortnite updates, a handful of weapons and items have been both vaulted and unvaulted. One of Fortnite's most overpowered items, the Boogie Bomb, has finally been vaulted, while the Grapple Glove has made its speedy return, allowing players to once again zip around the map with ease. The DMR has also been placed in the vault, but a brand-new weapon has already replaced it. Named the Cobra DMR, this weapon offers a much faster fire-rate than the standard variant, and a larger clip size, though its recoil is a little trickier. This update also adds the new Explosive Goo Gun, which launches sticky, explosive liquid onto enemies.

At the start of Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 4, new Key items were added to the game. After finding these keys in chests, players could journey to one of the hidden vaults across Artemis island. Opening up these vaults would grant players at least one rare chest, and a handful of regular chests. While these vaults can still be found, players can now use keys to unlock brand new Holo Chests. Each of these Holo Chests contains a powerful weapon of either Epic or Legendary rarity, with Exotic chests being available at some locations in exchange for two keys.

Fortnite's recent 22.10 update has also changed the game's map quite significantly. Fitting right in line with fan theories, the mysterious new Chrome threat has started to spread across the island, consuming a handful of iconic locations and turning them into Chrome-ified versions. Coney Crossroads has been fully consumed, and renamed to Chrome Crossroads, while Sleepy Sounds is beginning to see the Chrome seep in from above. Butter Barn has also been taken over, changing into Flutter Barn.

As Fortnite's NPCs try to avoid the spread of the Chrome, they've taken to attaching balloons to some of their buildings. Now floating in midair, these points of interest have moved across the map, with No Sweat Insurance floating from Tilted Towers to Chrome Crossroads. The Driftwood has also changed locations, moving to just East of Rocky Reels. The Rave Cave's Flairship has also taken flight, now appearing above where Shifty Shafts used to be, which has just been changed to Grim Gables, an eerie-looking mansion with a corn maze and graveyard out front.

Fortnite is free-to-play on Mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
